Panthers Take 2-0 Lead over Oilers in Stanley Cup Finals

The Florida Panthers defense shut down the Edmonton Oilers’ scoring machine for the second game in a row as the Panthers beat the visiting Oilers 4-1 in Game 2 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals. That lone Edmonton goal was the only one the Oilers scored in the first two games, as they were shutout 3-0 in Game 1. It was scored by Mattias Ekholm, with assists from Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard. Except for that assist, Florida has kept McDavid (132 points in the regular season) and Leon Draisaitl (106) off the scoresheet. The Panthers have allowed an average of just 2.11 goals per game in 19 games played, which leads the post season. Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky stopped all 32 shots on goal in Game 1 and saved 18 of 19 in Game 2.

Edmonton had a 1-0 lead after the first period, and Niko Mikkola answered in the second to tie it at 1-1. Evan Rodrigues scored a pair of goals in the third period. Aaron Ekblad added an empty netter at the 17:32 mark to complete the scoring and the victory.

The series shifts to Edmonton for Games 3 and 4. Game 3 is June 13th, and Game 4 is June 15th.
