NFL Conference Championships Set
With the Divisional Round complete, we’re all set for the NFL Conference Championships in the NFL playoffs. Here’s a look back at the Divisional Round, and the matchups for the AFC and NFC Conference Championship games.
AFC Divisional Round
#1 seed Kansas City 27 #4 Jacksonville 20. The Jaguars made a good run at the top seeded Chiefs, but came up a touchdown short. A big concern for Kansas City going forward is the status of QB Patrick Mahomes, who suffered a high ankle sprain. Though Mahomes left the game temporarily to get the ankle taped up, he did return, but the Chiefs will be closely monitoring him this week. Veteran backup Chad Henne filled in well, completing five of seven passes including one for a touchdown on a 98 yard drive. This will be Kansas City’s fifth straight appearance in the AFC Championship.
#3 Cincinnati 27 #2 Buffalo 10. The defending AFC champion Bengals handled the Bills on the road in rather easy fashion in snowy Buffalo. Cincinnati hasn’t lost since Halloween, and that winning streak includes a three point victory over Kansas City. The Chiefs will host the Bengals in the AFC Championship game for the second straight season.
NFC Divisional Round
#1 Philadelphia 38 #6 New York Giants 7. The Eagles beat the division rival Giants for the third time this season, jumping off to a 28-0 lead in the first half. Philadelphia had 416 total yards, including 258 on the ground, to New York’s 227.
#2 San Francisco 19 #5 Dallas 12. Unlike the Eagles-Giants game, this one was dominated by the defenses. The 49ers won for the 12th straight time, with rookie QB Brock Purdy winning the last seven. He completed 19 passes for 214 yards with no interceptions; Dallas QB Dak Prescott threw for 206 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted twice. Philadelphia will host the NFC Championship game; the Eagles and 49ers did not meet during the regular season.
