New Jersey Devils Hot Start Continues With 7th Straight Victory
Since losing in the 2011-12 Stanley Cup Finals to the Los Angeles Kings, the New Jersey Devils have been anywhere from mediocre to bad. Their only post season appearance was in the 2017-18 season when they were 1st round losers to the Tampa Bay Lightning. But in the early going this season, their may be reason for hope.
Nico Hischier scored with 8:10 left in the third period as the Devils beat the Calgary Flames 3-2 in Newark on November 8th. It was the seventh straight win for the Devils, their longest winning streak in 11 years, improving their record to 10-3 on the season. They had just 27 wins all of last season.
The Devils are averaging 3.62 goals per game, tied for 4th in the league. Hischier leads the team with 6 goals, and Jesper Bratt has 18 points (five goals, 13 assists). The Devils made an important off season move in the acquisition of goalie Vitek Vanececk from Washington. Vanececk, who had 33 saves in the win over the Flames, is 6-1 with a 2.18 goals against average. Along with backup goalie Mackenzie Blackwood (4-2, 2.79), the Devils are allowing 2.54 goals per game, sixth best in the league.
