Nevah Hoid o’ Ya Until October 2020

I read Page Six and very often see and skip articles on people I have never heard of. It occurred to me that I might be making a mistake– they might turn up on Jeopardy! someday and I’ll be like “huh?” So, in an attempt to rectify my ignorance, I decided to look ’em up and here they are:

Who is Carole Baskin? – she is a 59-year-old big cats rights activist who was featured in Netflix’s “Tiger King” (2020) series and also was a contestant on “Dancing with the Stars.” Apparently, her ex-husband, Don Lewis, disappeared in August 1997 and she has been accused by some dude named Joe Exotic of feeding him to her tigers. According to Page Six, she is okay with Lewis’ family taking out ads to find out what happened to him because if they do, it will clear her name.

I have just been informed that people are going “to make hella fun” of me for not knowing who Carole Baskin was until October 2020. Then I was shown this video with almost 6 million page views:

UPDATE: Incredibly, this $400 clue came up on in the 10/30/2020 Jeopardy! game and none of the players knew it, so I was the only one who never heard of Joe Exotic till this month, only I knew it when it did come up!

Mr. Exotic clue (Jeopardy! 10-30-20)

Who is Lance Gross? – he is a 39-year-old actor who played the role of Calvin Payne on the TBS sitcom “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” (TBS) and “Tyler Perry’s The Paynes” (OWN). Page Six exclusively reported that Chrissy Teigen’s announcement of her miscarriage triggered painful memories of the same thing happening to his family

Who is Barbara Amiel? – she is a 79-year-old British writer and socialite who was once friends with Ghislaine Maxwell when they both lived in NYC. She has written “Friends & Enemies: A Life in Vogue, Prison, & Park Avenue”, a book that will be published on 10/13/2020. Ghislaine Maxwell is now in the enemy camp, according to Page Six.

Who is Simon Doonan? – he is a 67-year-old British fashion designer, was ambassador-at-large for Barney’s clothing store and a judge on the NBC reality show “Making It”. He also just published a book called “How to Be Yourself” He dished with Page Six on how to be fashionable in a pandemic.

Who is Hoda Kotb? – She is an Egyptian American broadcast journalist and main co-anchor of the NBC News morning show “Today”. “A spy” reported to Page Six that she was “having the time of her life” in Central Park with her young children.

Who is Stephen Amell? He is a Canadian actor, best known for playing Green Arrow on The CW superhero series “Arrow” (2012-2020), who is currently cast in an upcoming Starz wrestling series called “Heels”. According to Page Six, Stephen has had some setback, including a bout with Covid-19 and a recent back injury that occurred on set during a stunt.

The Google Doodles

There were way too many people I never heard of who were featured on the Google Doodles in October 2020 for me to name. It’ll be easier to tell you the only one I knew: Kyu Sakamoto. He was featured in honor of the 59th anniversary of his song “Sukiyaki”, a number one Japanese language hit in the USA in 1963. I always loved that song even though I couldn’t sing a word of it! I could do the whistling part.
