NBA’s Jason Collins Comes Out as Gay: Twitter Reaction

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, veteran NBA center Jason Collins, who played for the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards in the 2012-13 season, became the first active player in one of the big four professional team sports (football, basketball baseball, and hockey) to reveal that he is gay.  In recent weeks, there has been speculation that someone, or more than one someone, would indeed come out, but it was Collins who decided it was time someone stepped forward. “I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I’m happy to start the conversation. He told the magazine. “If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I’m raising my hand”.
