Mitt Romney Will Box Evander Holyfield. Well Sort Of.

Former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield will come out of retirement for a bout with former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney on May 15th in Salt Lake City according to USA Today.  Holyfield, 52, last fought in the ring in 2011, while the last time the 68 year old Romney’s last bout was, well as best we can tell, never.

The two will box, in a manner of speaking, to raise money for Charity Vision, a nonprofit organization that works to restore curable sight impairment worldwide, particularly in Third World countries.  Though Romney never boxed, he isn’t a stranger to the sport.  In December 2012, soon after losing the presidential election to Barack Obama, Romney was ringside in Las Vegas for the fourth Manny Pacquiao–Juan Manuel Marquez fight.  In what was perhaps the lowest point of his career, Pacquiao was knocked out by Marquez for his second straight loss.  Pacquiao has since bounced back with three victories in a row, and will face Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on May 2nd.  We’re guessing Mitt won’t be ringside for that one if Manny has anything to say about it.

Here are some highlights of the 1991 bout between Holyfield and George Foreman:
