Mikaela Shiffrin Wins Giant Slalom at Olympics

After a few days of delays due to weather, U.S. alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin made her much anticipated 2018 PyeongChang Olympic debut February 14th (in the U.S). It was worth the wait as Shiffrin won the Gold Medal in the women’s Giant Slalom, which isn’t even considered her best event.

Shiffrin, who won the Gold in the Slalom at Sochi in 2014, will defend that title on February 15th. The slalom is considered her best alpine event, but she’s pretty good at any of them that she cares to ski. At the beginning of these Games, there was talk that she would enter five events, but with the weather compacted schedule, that is considered unlikely. She was not expected to do the Super G, but the Downhill and Combined were still on the table.
