Michael McDowell Wins Rain and Accident Delayed Daytona 500

Michael McDowell won his first NASCAR Cup race in 358 career starts at the Daytona 500 on Valentines Day 2021. The race featured a big accident 15 laps in, and ended with another one on the last lap. In between, there was a nearly six hour rain delay, that lasted so long several drivers left to pick up some fast food.

McDowell got his chance when leader Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski collided on the final lap as the latter made a move to take the lead and was blocked by Logano. McDowell was able to sneak through the crash and take the checkered flag. The race ended after midnight local time, about nine hours after it started.
