Medina Spirit Wins Kentucky Derby

After being delayed until September in 2020 due to Covid-19, the Kentucky Derby returned to it’s traditional 1st Saturday in May for 2021. Also familiar were the trainer and jockey of the winning horse.

Medina Spirit, a 12-1 long shot, won the race by half a length over second place Mandaloun. Jockey John Velazquez won his fourth Kentucky Derby and second in a row. He also won in 2011, 2017, and last year. Trainor Bob Baffert, who also trained last year’s winner Authentic, won for a record seventh time.

Next up in Horse Racings’ Triple Crown is the Preakness on May 15th, followed by the Belmont Stakes June 5th.

I was hoping for Known Agenda to win because at my house we all vote for who we think will win and I chose him; nobody voted for Medina Spirit.
