LSU Beats Iowa for Women’s NCAA Basketball Title

LSU hit 11 3 point baskets and the Tigers scored a title game record 102 points as the Tigers beat Iowa 102-85 in the NCAA Women’s Final Four championship. It was the first NCAA championship for LSU, and the fourth for coach Kim Mulkey, who had three while head coach at Baylor.

National Player of the Year Caitlin Clark led all scorers with 30; the Iowa guard had dropped 41 in the semi final against South Carolina. But LSU’s scoring was spread out among many players. The Tigers’ bench outscored the Hawkeyes’ 30-8. That included 22 from LSU’s leading scorer Jasmine Carson, who sank five of six three pointers and finished with 22 points. Alexis Morris scored 21, Ladazhia Williams added 20, and Angel Reese had a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

LSU had more of a team spirit. As you pointed out Iowa had Caitlin as the leading scorer. However, this matchup proved that it takes more than one person to win a game. It takes a team. Of course, having a superb coach like Kim Mulkey was a big plus for LSU. She has a track record to envy. Fantastic tournament.
