Lakers Beat Timberwolves Behind Record Performance by Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis scored 27 points, grabbed 25 rebounds, had seven steals, and five assists, to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 120-109 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Los Angeles on March 10th. This was the first time in NBA history that a player had a 25-25-5-5 game. Davis also had three blocked shots.

Davis is averaging a double double per game with 24.8 points and 12.5 rebounds, nearly identical to last season’s numbers (25.9, 12.5). The former #1 overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft has averaged a double double in eight of his 12 NBA seasons. He remains one of the best and most consistent players in the league, despite having some injury issues. This year he’s played in and started 62 of the Laker’s 66 games.

The Lakers (36-30) were 9th in the NBA Western Conference after the win over Minnesota, which puts them in the play in round of the post season, but they were just 2 ½ games behind the sixth place Phoenix Suns (the final non play in playoff slot). The 7th place Sacramento Kings and 8th place (by percentage points) Dallas Mavericks are a game and a half ahead of L.A. The Lakers will play at Sacramento on March 13th.
