Kevin Harvik and Scott Dixon Win at Big Racing Weekend in Indianapolis

It was a doubleheader of auto racing in Indianapolis over the Independence Day Weekend, with the IndyCar Grand Prix on the 4th of July and NASCARs’ Brickyard 400 on July 5th.

Scott Dixon scored his second win in a row, beating Graham Rahal in the Grand Prix. Dixon won the Indianapolis 500 in 2008, but this was his first win in the Grand Prix event, which is run on the speedway’s road race course.

In the Brickyard 400, leader Denny Hamlin crashed with seven laps to go, and Kevin Harvik held off Matt Kenseth to win the NASCAR event. It was Harvik’s third win in the Brickyard 400. Not racing this weekend was seven time NASCAR champ Jimmy Johnson. Johnson tested positive for Covid-19 but has been asymptomatic. He is the first NASCAR driver to test positive and will have to be cleared by doctors before he can return to the track. The miss ended Johnson’s 663 consecutive start streak.
