Kentucky Beats Kansas in Matchup of Legendary College Basketball Programs
Kentucky hosted Kansas on January 26th in one of this season’s SEC-Big12 Challenge games, an event that pairs teams from those two conferences against each other in basketball. It was the third time in the six year history of the Challenge that the Wildcats and Jayhawks had faced each other, with Kansas winning the previous two in 2016 and ’17. The Wildcats were 22-9 overall in the series going into the January 26th game. These two teams also had the most victories in Division I college basketball going into the game, with Kentucky (2278) holding a 14 win lead over Kansas (2264). Kentucky was ranked #8 in the country with Kansas right behind at #9.
Kentucky got double doubles from P.J. Washington (20 points, 13 rebounds), Reid Travis (18 and 12), and Keldon Johnson (15 and 10) in overpowering a 33-30 halftime deficit to score a 71-63 victory over Kansas. The Jayhawks were led by Dedric Lawson with his own double double of 20 points and 15 rebounds.
Kentucky (16-3) will play next at Vanderbilt on January 29th. For hose wondering when the Wildcats will face current #1 Tennessee, the first matchup is on the 16th of February in Lexington, while the second is at Knoxville on March 2nd. Kansas (16-4) will play next at Texas on January 29th.
