Kansas City Royals Off to Hot Start
Last year, the Kansas City Royals came out of nowhere to win the American League pennant for the first time since 1985. Were the Royals a team that came together last year and could be expected to be contenders again in 2015, or were they simply an OK team that happened to get hot at the right time and would regress to the mean this year?
If the first week of the 2015 season is any indication, this is a very good team. Through games of June 13th, Kansas City was the last undefeated team in the majors at 7-0. The Royals are hitting .329 as a team and have three regulars hitting over .400; they also lead the majors in runs scored. The pitching has been solid, especially the bullpen, which has not allowed an earned run. Closer Greg Holland has three saves and an ERA of 0.00. And they are pretty good at catching the ball too:
There’s a long way to go, but the Royals are definitely a serious contender and not a one shot wonder. They currently lead Detroit by one game in the A.L. Central and it should be an exciting race between those teams.
