Jeopardy! Clue Responses We Won’t See This Week

In this game, everyone who wants to play takes ONE guess on a clue response that WON’T come up all week. Now that is just so wide open, we have to have some conditions, right? Right. So here they are:

1. GET YOUR ENTRY IN BY 11:30 A.M. (Central) ON MONDAY – The post will be re-opened EACH SUNDAY so everyone gets a fair chance to enter, no matter what time zone you are in, and the prior week’s comments will be deleted.

2. You have to name a category for it and your clue should be in the form of a question. Example: “Alcohol-related: What is gin?” (Just so people have some idea what it has to do with). Potpourri and similar grab bag categories will not count towards near misses.

3. In the first “Jeopardy!” round, if gin happens to come up as the right response to any category, you lose. If “cotton gin” or “gin rummy” comes up, you’re safe. If gin comes up IN a clue and Tom Collins is the question, you’re still good.

4. In the second round, you’re in Double Jeopardy! If your entry comes up in the clue or in the response, you lose. Still using the “gin” example, you would not only lose if “what is gin” was the response, but also on a clue like this: “This cocktail of gin, cherry brandy & lemon juice is named for a city near the Malay Peninsula.” This rule also applies to the Final Jeopardy! clue.

5. It has to be a response that has come up on Jeopardy! before. If you want to check if your guess was ever a response to a clue, you can search J-Archive (top of the page) Example: Novel-related: Who is Ella Kennedy? (Scarlett O’Hara’s daughter in GWTW). I doubt if there will ever be a clue for that, although there were clues on her other 2 kids: Wade Hamilton and Eugenie “Bonnie Blue” Butler. More conditions may be added as situations arise.

We all got a point for 20th Century America for a 2-point start. There wasn’t much for us after that but the main thing is we all got through. One more week to go and it will be the first time in 4 years that no one got caught. Choose wisely!

LAST WEEK’S WINNERS (7/25/22)
I didn’t see any catch-all categories in this last week so we only got one starter point for getting through the week. Despite a mighty close call for JJ, we all got through this week and that meant this was the first time that we got through a whole season scot-free. How awesome is that?

LAST WEEK’S WINNERS (7/25/22)
VJ: Who is Jack Lemmon? x4 YOUR ROLE, FROM FILM TO TV, MOVIE FACTS
Rhonda: What is the Courtship of Eddie’s Father? x4 FROM FILM TO TV, MOVIE FACTS, MASHED-UP SITCOM TITLES
JJ: What is USA Today! x2 BUSINESS ABBREV.

POINT SYSTEM: Every time you escape elimination during the week, you get a point, depending on how much of a stretch it is to fit your entry into a broader category. We have already had an example of this where there was a 1980s category and JJ got a point because his U2 album came out in the 1980s. Don’t expect me to notice indirect fits so if you see one, bring your proof or your theory and I will judge it depending on what side of the bed I got out on that morning. Ha ha ha. Just kidding. I will give it due consideration and issue a yea or a nay.

Potpourri and Grab Bag categories: Everyone will get a point for these categories unless the entry does not fit, Example: “Vegetable Potpourri” Exception: If your entry comes up as the right response or in a DJ! clue, you will be eliminated.

We have a lot of fun on here. This is not a competition, however, there may be some teasing from time to time that is all in good fun and not to be taken seriously. We also learn new things about our choices when they fit into unexpected categories.

The daily game to predict how many will get FJ right and give a hint on the FJ answer is called “Spoiler Talk.” If you want to play that one, look for the post on the home page every weekday morning.

Thanks, Rhonda and JJ. It was a great season for us. We had some close calls and we snagged some really cool categories with our entries and that made it all the more fun. But yeah, that USA Today category in the very last game was quite dramatic!! Take a bow, Grape Nut!
