Iowa Downs LSU 94-87 Behind 41 Point Performance by Caitlin Clark

Iowa and LSU met in a rematch of the women’s NCAA basketball championship game from last year on April 1st. This time, the two met in an Elite Eight game instead of the championship. It was an eagerly anticipated game, given last season’s controversy over trash talking involving Iowa’s Caitlin Clark and LSU’s Angel Reese, both of whom are elite talented players. LSU won that game and the National Championship.

But those who tuned into the game to see any incidents were disappointed, as there were none. Those who tuned into see an entertaining game were not disappointed. Clark put on quite a show, scoring 41 points, 27 of which came on nine three pointers, to lead the Hawkeyes to a 94-87 victory. Reese put up some good numbers, too, scoring 17 and grabbing 20 rebounds before fouling out. Flau’jae Johnson led LSU with 23 points.

Iowa and Clark move on to the Women’s Final Four in Cleveland, where they will take on the UCONN Huskies in a semifinal. South Carolina plays North Carolina State in the other semifinal. Both UCONN and NC State’s men’s and women’s teams have reached their respective Final Fours. Clark is expected to be the overall #1 pick in the WNBA draft later this month. Angel Reese said she’d announce at a later date if she would enter the draft or return to LSU for another season.
