Indians Take Three of Four From Twins, Move Into First Place Tie in A.L. Central
Back on June 3rd, the Cleveland Indians trailed the Minnesota Twins in the American League Central race by 11 1/2 games. With starting pitchers Corey Kluber (out with a broken arm) and Carlos Carrasco (battling leukemia) missing large chunks of the season, it didn’t look like the Indians would win their fourth straight A.L. Central title.
But the Indians have climbed back into the race, and had a big four game set in Minnesota on August 8th-11th trailing the Twins by two games. Cleveland took three of the four games, and left town in a tie for first place with Minnesota, each with a 71-47 record. The Twins didn’t make it easy for them in the series finale, scoring two runs in the ninth to tie it at 3-3, but a 10th inning grand slam homer by Carlos Santana sealed the victory for the Indians.
The clubs have six games remaining against each other, September 6th-8th in Minnesota, and September 13th-15th in Cleveland.
