Hurricanes Win Stanley Cup

The Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights were pretty even in terms of shots on goal in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals in Las Vegas on June 14th, with Carolina having 23 and Vegas 22. The big difference was that three of Carolina’s shots scored goals while Vegas was shutout. The Hurricanes scored once in each period, with the last one being an empty netter, to beat the Golden Knights 3-0, taking the series 4-2. Carolina has its first Stanley Cup championship since the 2005-6 season.

Taylor Hall scored the first, and as it turned out, game winning goal. Jackson Blake had a goal and an assist. But the Hurricane defense was the star of the show, highlighted by goalie Brandon Bussi stopping those 22 Vegas shots for a shutout, the first in his post season career. Jordan Staal won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs. Rod Brind’Amour now has a Stanley Cup championship as both the coach of the Hurricanes and as a player on the 2005-6 Cup winners.
