Regarding the third U.S. State clue in the second round that stumped everyone, incl. Arianna, what a coincidence that this was the Final Jeopardy clue on Friday ( a rerun from 5/10/19):
U.S. STATES: This state entered the Union in 1820 after separating from another state that began with the same 2 letters
The two states involved in that clue were two of the multiple choices that they should have been able to eliminate easily: (one of the 13 original colonies and the other not getting admitted to the Union till The Missouri Compromise, much later than 1791, leaving the 14th state as the answer)
@VJ, I also caught that. I was wondering if any of them watch Jeopardy when that clue popped up. But then I started thinking perhaps they taped the show before the Jeopardy episode aired. Who knows? But imo it still should have been a slam dunk.
Btw, Sherri keeps saying tonight’s show. I have not seen it listed at night. Have you? It’s always on air in the afternoon.
No, Jacob, I have never seen the show listed at night. the Jeopardy! episode first ran on 5/10/19 but I don’t think they needed to see that clue to get the answer. I imagined the other experts saying to Arianna “What happened there? Did you forget about the Missouri Compromise?” LOL
P.S. I know that “Dream Within A Dream” poem by heart — not a particularly well-known poem but here’s the part (from memory) that sounds like its author .
I stand amid the roar of a surf-tormented shore
and I hold within my hands grains of the golden sands
How few! Yet how they creep through my fingers to the deep
While I weep–while I weep!
