Giants Beat Padres for Ninth Straight Victory

Joc Pederson tied the game with an eighth inning home run and then scored the winning run in the ninth on a bases loaded walk to give the San Francisco Giants a 4-3 victory over the San Diego Padres in San Francisco on June 20th. The Giants won the first game of the four game set with the Padres on June 19th, on a 10th inning homer by Mike Yastrzemski.

San Francisco is coming off series sweeps against their N.L. West rival Los Angeles Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals. The Giants improved to 41-32, good for 2nd place in the National League West, 2 ½ game behind Arizona. San Francisco will host a three game set with the Diamondbacks June 23-25. The Giants lost three of four at Arizona back in May, to fall to 17-23 at that time, but have gone 24-9 since then.

With its high priced roster of stars, San Diego remains a major disappointment, falling to 35-38, eight games behind Arizona. Fernando Tatis Jr., Juan Soto, and Manny Machado, three of the bigger names on the club, did do their part with six of the Padres’ 10 hits and all three RBIs, but the bullpen failed the club in the late innings.
