#4 Georgia Blows Out #7 Auburn in College Football

Just like everything else, the college football season is discombobulated, with a late start to the season, shortened schedules, reduced numbers of fans in the stands, and the specter of Covid-19 hanging over it all. The Big Ten and Pac-12 are still a few weeks away from starting, but other conferences like the SEC are underway. There was an early season matchup between two SEC powerhouses, with #7 Auburn at #4 Georgia in the first matchup of top 10 teams in the country.

This one was all Georgia. The Bulldogs got off to a 24-0 lead in the 2nd quarter and went on to win 27-6, holding Auburn to two field goals. Georgia had a big advantage in total yards with 442 to 216 for Auburn. Zamir White rushed for a pair of touchdowns for Georgia.

Georgia (2-0) moved up one place to third in the AP College Football Poll, trading places with fellow SEC member Florida (2-0). The Gators beat unranked South Carolina 38-24, but a victory over a top 10 team wins more votes than against an unranked opponent. Clemson (3-0) is ranked #1, Alabama (2-0) is #2, followed by Georgia and Florida, and then Notre Dame (2-0) at #5. Ohio State is sixth; the Buckeyes will make their season debut on October 24th, when they host Nebraska.
