After the 2-week break for the College Championship, reigning champ Chris Becker returned and won 2 more games. He was defeated on Wednesday, despite two big $10,000 scores on Daily Doubles, when Tim Kutz had the only correct FJ answer and won the match with that $46,599 you are seeing below. Tim continued to win on Thursday and Friday and our hopes for a 4x (or more) champ are all pinned on his return next Monday. Go Tim!

Here are a couple of clues from the category “Race” in Monday’s game.

How odd that they only made a clip of two clues. The $200 clue was chosen before the commercial break and the last 4 were left on the board till the very end of the game. The round ran about 2 minutes longer than usual and that time was taken away from the Double Jeopardy! round.

On Friday, there was a rejected mispronunciation and an accepted one right in the same game. Pat put an extra “r” sound in Algarve. That’s a no-no. Mitch pronounced Aquinas the way you start out saying aqua and used a short “i” sound, but didn’t add anything. We’re just assuming the “of” he threw in there was okay because other languages use it. (Example: Italian – Tommaso d’Aquino).

Good for you! Ever notice how Alex Trebek sometimes ends a chat with a contestant by saying those 3 words? Sometimes it just seems inappropriate like this past Wednesday when he said it to Katie after she told him she fell through a floor in an abandoned building while amateur ghost-hunting. “How loudly did you scream,” Trebek asked. “I don’t think I did,” Katie replied, “It just happened and it was only after I realized what happened that any noise came out.” One may have thought he would ask if she was hurt. “Okay,” he responded, “Well, good for you. Be careful.”
