The week began with an easy clue based on a word that most have seen on medicine bottles and, unsurprisingly, all the players nailed it. Thursday’s clue was the total opposite of easy, confusing way too many people. People who saw the clue before the show aired were quite confused despite having loads more time to figure it out than the players, so it was no surprise when none of the players got it. There was only 1 correct response for each of the other 3 clues. On Friday (1st quarterfinal of the Tournament of Champions), only 2 players made it to Final Jeopardy!, so out of 14 possible correct responses, only 6 were right.
The usual cause ascribed to results like this are poorly worded clues. There was some controversy over Tuesday’s clue. Some thought “certify” should have been used instead of “declare” because they thought conceding and declaring were synonymous, but that’s on them. We don’t think the cluewriters should give the clues away, but we do think there should be a reasonable chance of solving the clue in 30 seconds.
The last Champions Wild Card tournament wrapped up on Thursday of this week Deb Bilodeau advancing to the Tournament of Champions (ToC). Emily Sands won the first quarterfinal of the ToC.
There will be 5 more quarterfinals next week. That’s 5 chances for you to root for your favorite Jeopardy! champion:
