Geographically speaking, Botany Bay is located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Discovered in 1770 by Captain James Cook, it was first named Stingray Harbour but was renamed Botany Bay after the expedition’s naturalist, Joseph Banks, discovered a wide variety of plants on its shores.
Musically speaking, there are undoubtedly better folk songs than “Maggie May” that sing of the Botany Bay penal colony. Lonnie Donegan’s and the Beatles’ versions of “Maggie May” do not, but here’s a link to one that has several versions that include a line about Botany Bay. Other folk songs generally have “Botany Bay” right in the title, like “We’re Bound for Botany Bay” and “Jim Jones at Botany Bay”. Botany Bay has also been the topic of many books, films and TV series.
Veronica went with Double Day. That cost her $1,800 and left her with $6,400.
Jennifer got it right. She bet $3,500 and finished with $14,500.
Sam got it, too. He bet $14,000 and won the game with $38,000. These scores will be added to the scores at the end of tomorrow’s match to determine who wins the $250,000 grand prize. Speaking as someone who ended his first day with bupkis and went on to win the next day, Buzzy reminded us that anything can happen tomorrow. Don’t miss it!
