NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
From the Tell es-Safi/Gath Archaelogical Project weblog: “From the biblical text it would appear that Gath was the most important of the Philistine cities during the early period of Philistine history. It was from Gath that Goliath, the fabled champion of the Philistines came, and it was the king of Gath, Achish, who played an important role in the story of the young King David.” The project began in 1996 and will continue until the summer of 2021. This page, Gath in the Bible, explains why they believe Tell es-Safi was Gath back in the biblical day, although they do not have incontrovertible proof.
From the Old Testament, 1 Samuel 17:4: “And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.”
Victor gave it a shot with Baghdad. He lost his $399 bet and finished with one dollar.
Holly got a big laugh with Goliathtown. “I wanna move there,” Alex joked, “Don’t you?” That cost Holly $5,000 and left her with $2,800.
Jason just had Goliath. He lost $400, winning the game with the remaining $29,200. His 7-day total is $166,500.

Wow. How about that? Great dynamic graphics in the intro, and ended the new season with a funny but obvious Triple Stumper, since the two rely on the character and NOT the town. Victor came very close to an awful season start, but he managed to get out of the hole and participate in FJ. But hey, we’re just getting started.
Looking forward to season 36 of TV’s JEOPARDY! with Alex Trebek at 1929 ET in MD! Religion and sports are amongst my nadirs. I suspected the correct question had something to do with the biblical folklore story of David and Goliath but had zero idea of what city to ask.
We’re back and Season 36 has begun. Congrats to Jason, a 7 day champion with $166,500.
It’s great to see you again VJ and of course glad to see Alex back on jeopardy again. Well a good start for Jason but we are talking about david and goliath the king of gath. I wonder if any of the contestants knew about the philistines or how david stood victorious against goliath.
Hi, Lou, nice to see you back, too. They did know Goliath’s story, they just didn’t know or recall his hometown. Also, Goliath was not the king of Gath. That was Achish.

The Thunderbird Motor Trend car of the year clue was a triple stumper in Final J! in the season 18 premiere 18 years ago, asking the players to ID Motor Trend’s first car of the year, with the TOM “this Ford with a name from Native American Myth”
