NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
Stephen King tied with Belgium’s Georges Simenon at No. 18 on slate.com’s list. Interestingly, the majority on the list were long gone before the advent of motion pictures, so King is one of the few in the Top 25 who benefited financially from the film adaptations. He also has the distinction of having had cameo roles in some of the films, something that Dickens (#3), Poe (#5) and Robert Louis Stevenson (#6) would have undoubtedly loved. Shakespeare (#1) is said to have appeared, even starred, in many of his plays. (See Question 8) Too bad we’ll never see it.
Mojo.com has a list of the Top Grossing Stephen King Movies at the Box Office
Siddarth came up with Nicholas Sparks. He only lost $66 so he had $6,534 left.
Brandon drew a blank. He bet and lost it all.
Christine thought it was John Grisham (her pen didn’t pick up the “H” and it came out Grisnam). She lost her $14,001 bet and finished with $2,799. That made Siddharth a 2-day champ with total winnings of $28,135. Wow! How’s that for a surprise finish?
A triple stumper from each round:
MY NAME IS PRINCE ($800) it’s the alliterative name of Prince’s label as well as his home & studios outside Minneapolis
EXPLORERS ($800) In 1969 his autobiography of 57 years earlier was republished as “A Black Explorer at the North Pole”

The Final jeopardy question was a bit misleading since Stan lee was on the list in 2011 so stephen king should have been bumped up to the top 10 list. Also who was replaced on the number 14 spot after King moved to number 18?
These are the 4 authors that weren’t in the Top 15 on the original list: Alexandre Dumas, Edgar Wallace, Dostoevsky & Tolstoy. Dostoevsky replaced King at #14.
I didn’t care for the Final Jeopardy question. It wasn’t based on a fact that had necessarily been verified. Rather, it was one web writer’s scan of IMDB, which the writer fully admits may not have been complete. In fact, the writer even updated his list some time after it was initially written, based on reader feedback pointing out omissions in his original. It’s completely unknown whether any others were missed. (Yes, it’s a fact that this is what the slate article said, but the contents of the article have not been independently verified.)
I also thought the Final Jeopardy subject and question were both misleading. The subject was “Film Adaptations”, and the question said it was a “…survey of movie credits…”. But the slate.com article says that their list included “…not just major film adaptations, but also limited release films, television series and in some rare cases even video games.”
Good points, Bill.
I thought some more about that Stan Lee situation, too. That really did have the potential to turn into a mess because the original list was published on 3/11/2011. The updated one was published on 3/23/2011. The updated one has a link to the first one but I didn’t see a notation or link on the first one about the update. Hmmmm
Congrats to siddarth on his first 2 day champ of this season. I guess stephen king is a pretty obvious answer since all the others are dead now oh well. Brandon should have bet more conservatively instead of all of it
Stan Lee is also on Slates list in 2011…so the answer was misleading
@Will, Forrest Wickman updated the first list he made. Stan Lee did not make the Top 25 in his “Revised and Expanded” list, which is the one I linked to in the recap. Stephen King was also demoted from No. 14 on his first list to No. 18 on his second.
Alex said King was No. 18 so they weren’t going by the first list.. In any event, that was 5 years ago and the numbers on the adaptations have surely changed .
48/61 here.
One of the 2 authors i thought of. Nicholas Evans was the other.
Oops meant Nicholas Sparks
I just guessed on J.K. Rowling of the seven Harry Potter books and eight film adaptations, none of which have I read and will not see, as they are not rated G, or even PG in at least most cases. Neither have I read or seen any Stephen King books or film adaptations, nor will I, as horror is not a genre I care for at all (with a bit of tolerance for EA Poe, though). The King empire did not even cross my thinking radar, but I suppose it should have. I love books and films in general, but this clue fell outside my areas of expertise in those subjects.
@Alfred, not all of King’s movies are horror films, most notably The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption. You should check out that Mojo.com list — maybe you’ve seen some of them 🙂
@everyone, here’s a link to 12 more clues from this game
Another non-horror–Stand By Me
Brandon following the horrific advice that whomever is in 2nd should bet it all, simply gave the game away.
A wager in the range of 1401 to 2199 would have given him the lead if Christine would have missed, or bet nothing and completely locked out Siddharth.
Once again, there is nothing more important to learn in this game than Game Theory.
Bingo!
Congratulations to Siddarth on being the 1st 2-day champion of Season 33. I’m really excited about that!
