Sure, Drake explored the coast of California in the 16th century, and he didn’t get here by coming around the Horn and crossing the Pacific! I’m surprised nobody caught onto the obvious hook of the “Strait of Magellan,” especially Matt, who usually seems tuned into geographical subjects. He was just on the brink, but went the wrong direction. After many weeks of frustration, until about a week ago, I had this one handed to me on a silver platter. It’s my eleventh Final Jeopardy! skunk of the year 2021, and it will extend my chances, through the summer hiatus, of getting to my goal of 15 by year’s end.

  2. Howard says:

Had a feeling Matt would bet a bundle on FJ. When I saw “southern South America” and “16th century,” a light went on quickly and I thought of the Strait of Magellan. Bingo. I’m guessing Sir Francis Drake never went near the place.

    • Howard says:

CORRECTION: he did navigate the area, but it was already the Strait of Magellan by then.

  3. Jeopardy! lover says:

Keep going Matt! I know if you go with your gut, you can get a lot of money on FJ!

  4. Rick says:

As for the final question, the only explorer that I could come up with was Hernando Cortez. Of course, I knew that the Spanish conquistador’s explorations were mainly centered around Mexico.

  5. Lou says:

No one knew about Ferdinand Megellan? Too bad on that but still though had Matt stayed with his original response he would have scored 500K to tie with Jason zufferaniari. Emperor penguins was a funny response but those guys are not explorers. VJ this must be the second time that Matt lost this much money since last week, do you think he could possibly sweep up this final week without having to get more wrong fj responses?

  6. Ismael Gomez says:

Tough final as we begin the week with a triple stumper.

  7. Darius Scott says:

    Go Matt Go!

    You are awesome! Keep winning!

  8. DC says:

    Go Matt go!

Some will lament that he lost a lot on the FJ wager, or he would have been over 500K with a correct response, but hey, it’s in the funny money stage now.
    It’s all good.

The Curse of Roscoe struck again!
      🐱

      • Richard Corliss says:

Matt finished with $44,400 before Final Jeopardy.

      • DC says:

Did Roscoe miss another show? This is peculiar. On the one hand he became a fan of the show and/or Matt when Matt became a contestant.
Was it a late night out? A missed catnap?

        • VJ says:

Maybe Roscoe just knows when Matt is gonna lose a big bet and can’t stand to watch. lol.

Just kidding. I don’t remember if this was the case the first time it happened, but today, I thought it might have been because Jax was watching the show. When Roscoe sees either one of the twins, he goes the other way. (Unlike Boris, who likes them).

  9. Kevin Cheng says:

There might have been one solve to start the week if only Matt stayed with his original response but still he is now the fourth-most all time during regular season play and there are only 4 more games left of the season.
