Bob finished in the lead with a runaway $21,000. Leslie was next with $10,000 and Eddie was in third place with $800.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS PITTSBURGH?

Pittsburgh.com says that their city was originally called Fort Duquesne, adding: “the earliest known reference to the new name, Pittsburgh, is in a letter sent from General John Forbes to William Pitt the Elder, 1st Earl of Chatham, dated November 27, 1758. This letter notified Pitt that his name had been given to the place, spelled “Pittsbourgh.” They continue with the story of how the spelling changed to Pittsburgh, then Pittsburg, then back to Pittsburgh!

There are many other places in the U.S. named after William Pitt the Elder in various forms of “Pitt” and “Chatham”, and there are some in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, as well as Chatham Island in the Galápagos. There are also various “Pitt” places around the world named for Pitt of Chatham’s son, William Pitt the Younger, who served as Prime Minister about 26 years after his father’s death.

Eddie thought it was Atlanta. He bet and lost it all.

Leslie got it right. She bet it all and doubled her score to $20,000.

Bob got it, too. He didn’t bet anything because he already had the semi-final spot in the bag with his $21,000.

    Eddie, darn those Daily Doubles.

Eddie Timanus is now married and they have a son who has recovered from blindness. His mother Terri was on the show in 1992.

Tomorrow we’re paying tribute to India Cooper who recently died.

  3. Richard Corliss says:

Leslie Shannon used to be Leslie Miller and she used to live in Virginia. Like me. She didn’t come to the Ultimate Tournament of Champions due to her pregnancy. However she came back in the Battle of the Decades in 2014. She and Eddie are married. Bob Verini still single.
