Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS NAT TURNER?

Nat Turner was an African American slave, who believed he was a prophet and often preached from the Bible. In August 1831, he led a rebellion called the Southampton Insurrection after the Virginia County it occurred in. It became more famously known as Nat Turner’s Rebellion or Revolt. What began with Turner and four other men grew into a group of 50 something rebels who killed over 50 whites.

While awaiting trial, Turner told his story to attorney Thomas Ruffin Gray, who published their conversations as “The Confessions of Nat Turner”. That is where the partial quote in today’s clue comes from. Here’s the full quote: “And about this time I had a vision—and I saw white spirits and black spirits engaged in battle, and the sun was darkened—the thunder rolled in the Heavens, and blood flowed in streams—and I heard a voice saying, “Such is your luck, such you are called to see, and let it come rough or smooth, you must surely bare it.”

Jay went with John Brown and lost $3,000. Jay finished with $1,200.

Joey got it right. He bet $7,801 and finished with $17,201.

Stella went with Sitting Bull. She lost $2,000 and finished with $15,200. That made Joey Quismorio the new Jeopardy! champ.

I predict Joey to be a one day champ, unless he faces weak competitors. I, for one, was not impressed. The younger person “why did I ring in” seems hollow to me.

Competitive game, good challengers, although Jay was up and down more than the Dow Jones average. Joey stayed within range with a strong 2nd round. I blanked on the first DD and Final, got the other DDs.

Some strange responses. The Roman Empire in 1910? No one knew what city the Left Bank is in? Or the Mississippi’s famous nickname? I guessed the type of angel, the other stumpers were unkind. Didn’t see it in the stumpers, but I’m hardly shocked these youngstas didn’t know the year of the Watergate burglary.

It was another great game, and somewhat competitive. Anyways, I performed a little above average in the game, and went with Andrew Jackson for FJ. Sitting Bull? No!!!!!!! He appeared in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show around the turn of the century, and several decades later. Nat Turner? I never heard of him until now.
