Today’s Final Jeopardy question (6/25/2021) in the category “New York City” was:

New champ Arman Ramnath, a law student from Columbus, OH won $19,205 yesterday. In Game 2, he is up against: Austin Weiss, a pediatrician from San Diego, CA; and Nikkee Porcaro, an educational consultant tutor orig. from Lebanon, NJ.

Armand found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Out West in the U.S.” under the $800 clue on the 4th pick of the round. He was tied for the lead with Austin at $600. Nikkee was in the red for $400. He bet $1,000 and he was RIGHT.
In 1806 this explorer who gets 2nd billing carved his name on Pompeys Pillar, a rock formation on the Yellowstone River show
Austin finished in the lead with $6,400. Arman was second with $3,600 and Nikkee was last with $3,400. No clues went uncovered.

NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
From greatwhiteway.com: “The Great White Way is a nickname for a section of Broadway in the Midtown section of New York City, specifically the portion that encompasses the Theatre District, between 42nd and 53rd Streets. Nearly a mile of Broadway was illuminated in 1880 by Brush arc lamps, making it among the first electrically lighted streets in the United States. The headline “Found on the Great White Way” appeared in the February 3, 1902, edition of the New York Evening Telegram. The journalistic sobriquet was inspired by the millions of lights on theatre marquees and billboard advertisements that illuminate the area, especially around Times Square.”
An old clue from 2016: NFL NICKNAMES ($600) Jets QB Namath was called this, after Manhattan’s Great White Way
Arman went with Times Square Crossing. That cost him $3,000 and left him with $200.
Austin only had one word– Broadway. He lost his $700 bet and was left with $12,900.
Nikkee came up with The Miracle Mile. (The show would probably consider that a 2-word nickname.) She lost $7,800 and finished with $11,700. That made Austin Weiss the new Jeopardy! champion.
A triple stumper from each round:
ANTHROPOLOGY ($1000) Elsie Clews Parsons covered the Zuni & Hopi in her landmark book on the religion of these peoples of Arizona & New Mexico
WORLD LITERATURE ($2000) Novels in the horror genre by Bram Stoker include “The Lair of” this colorful snakelike creature
2 years ago: ALL of the players got this FJ in “Compound Words”
This 8-letter word can follow nuclear to refer to a dangerous accident, or mean a total loss of emotional control show

I’ve had a frustrating two months with two *almost* skunks, but no cigar. On one occasion my mind just went blank (I’ve taken much US history in school and why the Monroe Doctrine wouldn’t pop into my brain is beyond explanation) and then on another I changed my response from “Liechstenstein” to “Andorra” but not until after the “thinking” music stopped. I visited midtown Manhattan once so, finally, I clicked at the right moment. I almost took the bait and responded with “What is Broadway” because the principle diagonal street crossing Manhattan is that one. But the “3-word nickname” stopped me in my tracks, and I switched well-before the end of the 30-seconds. That’s Final Jeopardy! “skunk” number eight for me this year.
Some enjoyable moments in today’s game — here’s a couple I got a kick out of:
Arman starting to say “parsley” and then saying “oh, c’mon” when he blanked out. Savannah calling time on the Scarborough Fair clue (which had thyme in the answer) and especially in the last round…
Arman buzzing right in with “Heckle & Jeckle” on the Gogol clue. I loved that grin on his face. 🤣🤣🤣
I am taking the online test tomorrow. Wish me luck.
Best of luck!
Yes, Albert, best of luck….Give ’em the old razzle dazzle
I came up with ‘Great Light Way’, but I was close.
What was the final answer. Bright new lighting installed in 1880 on a street that crosses Manhattan diagonally led to this 3-word nickname
@Michael, the final answer is always in the recap —
look at the first line under NONE of the players etc.
Tough Final as we end the week with a triple stumper.
Well if anyone here is a life long new yorker or has frequently visited New York they cannot miss the Great White way along with broadway and Times Square My family and I have visited the intrepid museum and MOma many times in the past. Not bad guesses. I might have actually been to manhattan once but midtown is pretty cool. We close out the week without a five time champion and a few triple stumpers in final but hopefully someone will get 4 games won next week.
And hopefully, next week will be a good week. Yes, I am gonna miss Savannah Guthrie next Monday, but we must move on.
If you’ve been to MOMA many times, you’ve been in Manhattan more than once.
I’m a native NYer and the final was a cinch, as you suggested. But I’ve never heard of an “intrepid” museum.
The FJ wagers seemed a bit odd to me.
The Intrepid Museum that Lou is talking about is on a ship that is situated on one of the piers on the west side, somewhere in the 40’s.
The intrepid is an aircraft carrier that’s docked in the Hudson river. It serves as a sea air and space Museum.
