Btw VJ & Rhonda, I forgot to mention that Jeopardy won the Emmy last night for Best Game Show. The ladies in my family were watching the Emmy Award Show & yelled to me that Jeopardy won. I got to the Media Room just in time to hear Mike Davies acceptance speech. He mentioned having worked with Merv Griffin. Now I know what Mike Davies, the Executive Producer, looks like on TV anyway. Seemed like a down-to-earth person.

    • Jacob Ska says:

I almost forgot to mention. There was no mistaking his British accent which I always enjoy listening to. It sounds so distinguished imo.

      • rhonda says:

Oh, yes, Jacob, I agree with you about the way the British accent sounds. I was also watching last night and was pleased that Jeopardy won another Emmy for best game show.

    • klm says:

is there a video of the emmy speech posted online? can someone please post the link? thanks.

      • VJ says:

klm, I looked around for a video of that part but I can’t find one on YouTube or anywhere else. You can stream the whole show on Paramount Plus if you have that, or with a free trial if you want to go that route.

It’s also possible that Jeopardy! will put the clip up on their site by Monday.

I’m liking Joe. He looks like a well-rounded contestant. Lauren was sharp too. Good match. Both did Maryland proud. I figured Jeff would become toast after he missed the Hewlett Packard clue. That’s basic Business courses knowledge.

  3. Howard says:

Without having read all the comments, I’d not have known you were ailing. I hope that whatever it is doesn’t affect you much longer. Your site is a real treasure.

Very good group tonight. The missed DD was gettable if one knew the Burroughs reference. Not a lot of famous Beat poets to choose from.

FJ was a cinch. If you knew any one of the winner’s 3 movies’ years (I happened to know all of them), it wasn’t too hard to know who the male star of that movie was. And not a lot of men have won 3 Best Actor Oscars. (The corresponding winners were Louise Fletcher, Shirley Maclaine, and Helen Hunt.)

  4. Rick says:

Hmmmm…….In FJ, .I went with Robert Redford, but oh well..

  5. Sam in Seattle says:

VJ, I hope you feel better soon. Don’t worry about the site – you already did all the important stuff. However, I wanted to agree with you about the Pope poem. Never liked it. Didn’t care if it was satire or criticism. You surely went above and beyond with the second chance. Maybe I will try The Essay on Man. Even at this late date (for me), my mind can be changed. Again, thank you for all you do for us fans. You and your site are gems!

    • VJ says:

Thank you, Sam. Pope was a Roman Catholic, as you may know. That’s why I mentioned my high school. I wondered why they didn’t teach us the Essay on Man when you can see Pope’s very Catholic views in it. Most likely, they just taught what was in the textbook for that year.

So many quotes come from Pope’s works. “Hope springs eternal” is from the Essay on Man. However, as Brilliant as he was, he just didn’t know when to shut up. You’ll see what I mean by that!

  6. VJ says:

I had a really hard time trying to get my winners image today and now my right arms hurts so much, I gave up till later.

To borrow a phrase from a certain WW2 General, I shall return.

But before I go and rest my arm, I wanted to say that I went to a Catholic high school and we had to study that Alexander Pope poem that was a TS. I disliked it so much it almost turned me off Pope for all time. But I gave him another chance and as it turned out, I love the Essay on Man.

    • Lou says:

I also will agree about the Pope poem as I am not a huge fan of it either. So maybe I will catch up on the essay of man as well. Praying that your arm will recover soon VJ

Oh and happy to see Joe winning. Congrats to the challengers from Maryland getting final.
