Maya found the first Daily Double in “6 Drugs” under the $1,600 clue on the 6th pick of the round. She was in third place with $3,000, $6,800 less than Ryan’s lead. Maya made it a true Daily Double, and said statin. That was WRONG.

WHAT IS PETRA?

In ancient times, Petra was an important city due to its location between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea and was considered a crossroad between Arabia, Egypt and Syria-Phoenicia. When Gertrude Bell arrived there in 1900, it was part of the Ottoman Empire. Today, it is part of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and its most visited tourist site. Petra became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985: “The Outstanding Universal Value of Petra resides in the vast extent of elaborate tomb and temple architecture … churches and other public buildings.” Petra is sometimes called the “Rose City.”

Nicole Kidman portrayed Gertrude Bell in the 2016 film “Queen of the Desert”. Although the film was a flop, Kidman got good reviews for her acting. “Letters from Baghdad”, a 2016 documentary, got much better reviews from the critics.

Maya thought it was Jaipur, a city in India sometimes called “the Pink City.” She bet and lost her whole $2,000.

Tom had the same answer. He also went all in and lost everything. For Tom, that was $18,800.

Ryan went with Baghdad. He lost $3,500 but won the game with the $19,300 he had left. His 15-day total is $279,400.

I got the Final right the last two nights. I knew Ryan was weak in geography as I believe he hasn’t seen much of the world. I was shocked that he missed Trafalgar the night before. He’s very good, but not in the same category as Super Champs Matt, Amy or Mattea.

Here, the President pre-empted, but, what REALLY galls me are the talking heads that don’t really say anything, nor add anything. As such, the entire 30 minutes were filled. And, my local station, despite having two channels, aren’t at all on the ball about rescheduling later in the evening or early morning.

As such, mucho, mucho thanks to VJ for the write-up! Otherwise, I would have no idea! And, from reading it, I would not have gotten FJ.

    Thanks again, VJ!!

  3. VJ says:

I still don’t see how the contestants had much of a chance with this clue. The nickname of the city would have been a lot more helpful. The variations I saw online were Red Rose City, Rose Red City and Rose City, so I went with just Rose. This PBS page says Lawrence of Arabia visited Petra, among other places in Jordan, but I couldn’t find anything saying that he and Bell were there together.

I think this makes 8 FJs that Ryan missed in his 15 games.

    • Jacob Ska says:

@VJ, he has gotten 8 incorrect and 7 correct. He keeps winning though. Evidently, winning a game does not always depend on getting final Jeopardy correct. When the stars align for someone not much can be said. As Frank Sinatra sang “That’s Life.”

      • VJ says:

Yes, Ryan has been very lucky in some of these games. As far as the FJ’s go, this has been a particularly bad week in the FJ! department. 4 of those 8 misses are from this week alone!

    • Howard says:

And once again, Ryan’s FJ wager was unusual, in that he’d have lost had both he and Tom answered correctly. Was rooting for Tom, who’s from Forest Hills, NY, where I lived from ages 6 to 23.

  4. Lou says:

Well we had strong players today and very few triple stumpers. Happy to see Ryan winning again. I could possibly see him tying with Mattea Roach.

  5. Ismael Gomez says:

Yet another tough final as we got a triple stumper.

    • Jacob Ska says:

Two of the contestants knew geography. Jaipur, as VJ pointed out in her recap, is sometimes called “The Pink City.” The clue was badly written imo. Too much information so two contestants chose to focus on the word “pink.” This shows they are definitely familiar with India.

  6. Kevin Cheng says:

$8,600 is tied for the best second-placed score after the opening round, tied with Sandy Olive from June 22, 2021.
