Final Jeopardy: Schools Around the World (5-6-15)
The Final Jeopardy question (5/6/2015), in the category “Schools Around the World” was:
In 1906 this city’s Academy of Fine Arts admitted Egon Schiele; in 1907 it rejected Adolf Hitler.
2x champ Scott Ylinen scored another runaway yesterday and brought his winnings up to $43,655. Today he is up against these two players: Rebecca Golden, from Hamtramck, MI; and Mike Duval, from Norwood, MA.
Round 1: Mike found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “What About Bob?” under the $800 clue on the 4th pick of the round. He was in the lead with $1,200 and was the only one answering so far. Everybody else had $0. He made it a true Daily Double but drew a blank so he was WRONG.
He put out the live double album “Babylon by Bus” in 1978. show
Mike finished in the lead with $3,600. Rebecca was second with $3,400 and Scott was last with $1,000.
Round 2: Rebecca found the first Daily Double in “You” under the $1,200 clue. She was in the lead with $4,600, $200 more than Mike in second place. She bet $2,000 and she was RIGHT.
… were one of these from Greek for “newborn animal”, for the first 7 weeks after you were conceived. show
Scott found the last Daily Double in “…& What Army” under the $800 clue. He was now in the lead with $9,400, $2,400 more than Rebecca in second place. He bet $4,500 and he was RIGHT.
In 1974, farmers in China discovered the army seen here, made of this earthy material.
show
Scott finished with $18,700, yet another runaway! Rebecca was next with $9,000 and Mike was in third place with $2,000.
ALL of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
“In 1906 Schiele applied at Kunstgewerbeschule (the School of Arts and Crafts) in Vienna, where Gustav Klimt had once studied. Within his first year there, Schiele was sent, at the insistence of several faculty members, to the more traditional Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna in 1906. There, he studied painting and drawing, but was frustrated by the school’s conservatism. Records show that Adolf Hitler was rejected by the Akademie in 1907; this has led to a misconception that Schiele and Hitler knew each other in Vienna.” (Egon Schiele Biography)
Also, see Artsy’s Egon Schiele pages, with a gallery of his works, articles and additional information about the artist.
Mike bet $1,989. That brought him up to $3,989.
Rebecca bet $1,980. She finished with $10,980.
Scott bet $350 so he won this match with $19,050. Trebek’s observation that he got the runaway on the last clue they dealt with was wrong. Scott already had $18,300 when he chose the last $400 clue they got to. In any event, he remains champ and his 3-day total is $62,705. That was some super catching up there, Scott! (and did we see a little mustache twirling going on there?)
During the chat, Scott talked about studying Russian in school and using that skill on a later trip to Russia to meet pretty girls.
2 years ago:: Only ONE of the players got this FJ in “Continents”
It’s the continent that’s home to the most U.N. member countries, including a new one added in 2011. show

Wow! Amazing how Scott had a complete turnaround and put the game away. Congrats!
And it was also nice to have a triple solve for a change. 🙂
Yep. I hope the trend continues the rest of the week.
Scott is real sharp.
@VJ
Would Scott be eligible for the upcoming ToC if he wins again tomorrow and knocks off the player who is 15th in the current list? Or is it too late for the next ToC??
I think the ToC will be up pretty soon, like after the “celebrity” week?
Txs in advance!!
I don’t think I even have 15 on my list. Check on the Final Wager’s TOC list, though he is not showing 15 on his list either.
You are correct vj.
Don’t foresee a TOC this season. The last one was November 2014. Perhaps next season and even then not until early 2016 is my guess.
Thanks,vj! It also said “he”, so i got a little confused. Amazing how you put this thing together that fast anyway! My respects for such an incredible job!
So… I was right with my prediction after all…. all players left for fj will get this!
@jacob,vj,eric and elijahjt
I guess you underestimated HOW famous The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna WAS and IS.
It was and still is the leading institution in that genre in all of Europe.
Add a minimum knowledge about Schiele and Hitler and BINGO!. I would have been VERY disappointed had even one player missed this.
@Doris, wrong. I lived in Germany for 4 years and am familiar with the one in Vienna and Munich. Reread my comments on Spoiler Talk where I explained my rationale for my prediction.
Also, did you read my congrats comments to you above?
Yes, thank you. Munich, MAYBE. But Berlin??
@Eric:
Berlin and fine arts go together like a cheese cake and anchovies…:):)
and jacob: you doubted that TAoFA is on the radar of Americans. I am glad that you were wrong there. As far as Hitler is concerned: one thing that will always stick in my mind is that he sold postcards that he drew himself in the streets of Vienna.Idk why that morsel stuck, but it did.Besides, I did read “Mein Kampf”…
I guess some oddities stay with you, maybe that was also the case with the 3 players today? But it does not matter, they got it right. Too bad that only one can win but Scott seems to be in overdrive..:):)
(Or in UEBER-drive to stay with German)
@Doris: what you don’t seem to understand is that the player who would favor the response of Munich over Berlin would also be more likely to get FJ correct. Thus, Berlin is a more likely uncredited response.
Lol. I just underestimated the players, but thank you for categorizing my analysis.
Have you ever seen a poll in which the sample size was three? No, I hope not.
Yes, these three contestants got it right, but I am still not convinced that every J! contestant should get this right or be booted off the show. An easy clue, in my opinion, is one where virtually no background information about the topic is required to get it correct: it’s basically the natural guess. (The best I can think of right now is the Oct. 2, 2013, clue– although I’m sure there are better examples out there.)
I think Vienna was about the best guess here with minimal background knowledge, but I’d hardly call someone unworthy of the show if they said Berlin, Munich, or Salzburg. But when I said, why would it be unreasonable for someone to say Salzburg, you said you’d be way off, with comments noting “if you know the slightest thing about Hitler”. Um, ok, like the fact that he was born near Salzburg, as you mentioned later on? You knew Salzburg was wrong because you *knew* that despite him being born near there, that’s not where he spent most of his youth. Is it really expected that every J! contestant should know that distinction? Maybe, maybe not.
But I think to suggest that because you have that detailed background knowledge, everyone else would, is a bit unnecessary. We all have our wheelhouses, and I hope I have not nor ever will be that dismissive of contestants (or readers here) for not knowing something in mine. And I certainly wouldn’t follow that up with an “I told you so” in another thread.
@Elijah, the reason your comment didn’t post right away is because it had a link in it. I set up all links to be moderated to prevent spam and I was sleeping at the time you posted.
Congrats Doris on 3 correct. You don’t have to send any of them to WOF or TPiR. LOL
Congrats Scott on a good trend.
Speaking of other game shows, idk if everyone saw it, but Brian from the Chain Store News show left a comment the other day about his Rosie O’Donnell and WWTBAM experiences.
Yeah, Scott.. What are the chances to start with a runaway and have 3 in a row? Funny how he always bets 50% of his lead (except in the first game with the 5 bucks bet). but even there he deducted the $5 and went with half of his lead in FJ.
