WHO IS JACK KEROUAC?

Time Magazine’s opinion of “On the Road” wasn’t exactly flattering, complaining that “The post-World War II generation–beat or beatific–has not found symbolic spokesmen with anywhere near the talents of Fitzgerald, Hemingway, or Nathanael West. In this novel, talented Author Kerouac, 35, does not join that literary league, either….”

Joshua Chaplinsky, Managing Editor of LitReactor, translated that to mean that Kerouac “had little to offer other than good looks and youthful rebellion,” In “Your Favorite Book Sucks: On The Road”, he notes that Time Magazine changed its tune when it named “On The Road” one of the 100 Best Books of All Time. In his amusing essay (which includes mild profanity), Chaplinsky concludes that reaction to Kerouac’s novel is similar to “how Nickelback can simultaneously be the most popular and most hated band in the world.”

Justinne thought it was J. D. Salinger. She lost her $2,201 bet and finished with $3,999.

Jason went with John Updike. That cost him $3,500 and left him with $12,500.

Ryan got it right. He bet $7,000 and won the game with $27,000. His 3-day total is $70,000. Nice going, Ryan!

Ryan playing with fire, again with an inadequate wager. I thought Jason was going to pull it out. His knowledge of indigenous persons was remarkable.

I mentioned yesterday about graduating from college, and, my final semester, I took a course on Milton, and, so, I was happy that clue was answered correctly!

And, it holds true – Scottish poet means Burns. Period.

This was a good game, and enjoyable to watch. I didn’t come up with an answer for FJ.

Jason, Scottish poet also means Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson to me.

I always loved Scott’s “My Native Land” — (esp read by Bullwinkle)

I always loved RLS’ A Child’s Garden of Verses and taught some of those poems to my children.

Ryan definitely has a strong potential for the Tournament of Champions.

Very impressive gameplay tonight especially with Jason.
