WHAT IS THE NUTCRACKER?

“When the San Francisco Ballet company performed the first complete version of The Nutcracker in the U.S. on Christmas Eve, 1944, … the music wasn’t new to Americans. The ballet debuted in 1892 in St. Petersburg, and Tchaikovsky’s Suite of the eight most popular songs (like the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and the “Russian Dance”) quickly became a hit internationally. In 1940, Walt Disney had included the Suite in Fantasia. In one notable scene, fairies freeze a pond while skimming its waters across the top of a pond—foreshadowing another great American moment for the ballet: The Nutcracker: A Fantasy on Ice, starring Dorothy Hamill in 1983.” (Time: How The Nutcracker Colonized American Ballet)

Eric bet it all and doubled his score to $20,400.

Thatcher bet the farm, too. He finished with $28,400.

Hannah bet $10,201 and won the second final spot with $28,401.

Call him Vincent Van Go/ For unless I’m way off/ He was Vincent Van Gogh.

Not to be too critical, but I was surprised that neither player could make the connection CYPRUS- COPPER. If this had been the FJ…..

I don’t think the three finalists will exceed the minimum money.

  4. Bonnie Calvin says:

It is relevant that a former First Lady died, but to show five minutes of family photos on NBC was ridiculous. Could they not run the news trailer on the bottom of the screen?

  5. Patrick Keeling says:

They cbs could have waited until Jeopardy was over butheads Guess they wanted to be first with the news Alas

  6. Fable Foreacre says:

What did the second person bet on April 17,2018? I wanted to know because the news showed a 92-year old died and I don’t know

  7. Gerry says:

Thank goodness for the Internet; they cut the last 10 seconds of the show to talk about Barbara Bush dying!! They couldn’t wait 10 more seconds???? Stupid CBS execs. They’d never make it on Jeopardy…

  8. Carol Jean McLarty says:

I guess The Nut Cracker is so popular that it even defies the disadvantage of being composed by a Russian. (Disadvantage meaning being known, not in quality, though I am not necessarily a big ballet fan. Unfair, since it is extremely difficult.)
