WHAT IS THE VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM?
Britain’s Queen Victoria was the daughter of Edward, Duke of Kent, 4th son of George III. Her mother, Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, was born a German princess. One of her brothers was Duke Ernst of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Duke Ernst became Queen Victoria’s uncle when she was born on 5/24/1819. Victoria’s mother became the aunt of Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Duke Ernst’s son, when he was born on 8/26/1819. Thus these future spouses, Victoria and Albert, were first cousins. They met in 1836 and married in 1840. In a world of arranged marriages, theirs was a love match that lasted 21 years until Albert’s death.
On 5/17/1899, just 8 months prior to her own death, Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone for the Victoria and Albert Museum along Exhibition Road and Cromwell Road. At the time, it was known as the Museum of Ornamental Art. Although Queen Victoria wanted it to be renamed in honor of her late husband, it was renamed the Victoria and Albert Museum, and is commonly called the V&A.
Kat guessed the Tate. She lost $5,398 and finished with $2.00.
Andrew got it right. He bet $7,201 and finished with $20,201.
Dave wrote down the Royal Alexandrian. He lost $5,801, leaving him with $14,399. Andrew clearly thought the jig was up, but it wasn’t! His $20,201 won the game and now, Andrew has a 2-day total of $45,401.
Reversal: GAMES ($400) Released in 1996, the “64” version of this video game series gave its star new abilities like backflips & triple jumps – Ken hesitated over Dave’s response of Super Mario so Dave tried Mario but Ken was looking for Super Mario Bros. The judges accepted the Super Mario response.
A triple stumper from each round:
GAMES ($800) In 1982 an Oregon man was acquitted of gambling charges when a judge ruled this stones & dice game was one of skill, not chance
LATIN CLASS ($1600) Some philosophers think there’s no such thing as this Latin-named type of knowledge that’s independent of experience
2 years ago: TWO of the players got this FJ in “EXPLORATION”
James Cook’s account of a 1774 visit here records an object “near 27 feet long, and upwards of 8 feet over the breast or shoulders” show

3/3 on DD and got FJ. FJ was a little tricky, because it was like that old riddle: “You have two coins totalling 55 cents, but one of them is not a nickel”. Sure, cousin of the Queen, but, the other person IS the Queen!
Kat got herself in trouble twice, I believe, by ringing in but not coming up with it
I noticed the middle player went by “Dave”, but Ken called him “David” at the end of the first round. Dave mentioning Jerome Vered was something!!
Good game, Kat was mostly outclassed, but she got in when she could, at least until she fudged that FTZ clue near the end. Thought my fellow Portland guy would pull this one out. His parent losing to Jerome Vered was no shame; that guy is a genius.
I said the V&A Museum but was 99.9% certain that was wrong. I was in London in 1971 but never visited it, just the Tate and British. Also got first/3rd DDs, so a good night. Got the Billy G venue and the sturdy nightstand; should have nailed at least two of the others.
Concur Kat was overmatched. But, oh my goodness – the Staples Center? Really?
Agreed. Generally I’m amazed by how much players half my age or younger know stuff from my childhood/teen years, but every once in awhile they say something cringeworthy like that. I’ve been to the LA venue a few times, including the 1984 Olympics and a couple Rams and Raiders games, but not to Staples (now Crypto.com).
Well, players half your age or younger learn stuff from their parents and grandparents. I have a kid born in the 70s, one in the 80s and one in the 90s. I got a kick out of it when the Jeopardy! panel didn’t know “how now brown cow” but my youngest did. 🤣
I tried to watch the time today, but I unfortunately missed the first couple of minutes of today’s game. Darn!
Even then, I did about average with all things considering.. Anyways, I went with the Victoria Museum for FJ. Perhaps I can still get credit for it (as I was referring to that big museum in England)?
