Final Jeopardy: Animated Film Characters (4-10-24)
The Final Jeopardy question (4/10/2024) in the category “Animated Film Characters” was:
In this 2017 film Dante is a hairless breed known as a Xolo dog
3x champ Lucas Partridge, a school counselor from Las Vegas, NV, won $66,200 by the end of Season 39. It’s been quite a wait for Game 4, but here it is and here are his opponents: Lee Wilkins, a regulatory affairs coordinator from Auburn, AL; and Daniel Rosenberg, a lawyer from New York, NY.
Round 1 Categories: Slangin’ With Mr. Jennings – Music Terms – Major League Baseball – Flag Time! – Ask Forgiveness – Not Persimmon
Daniel found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Major League Baseball” under the $1,000 on the 4th pick of the round. He was the only one with any moolah. Daniel bet it all and he was RIGHT.
In the 1950s this NL team temporarily changed its name so as not to be associated with Communism show
Daniel finished in the lead with $4,600. Lucas was second with $3,600 and Lee was last with $0. All clues were shown.
Round 2 Categories: The 6 Mothers-In-Law Of Henry VIII – It’s a Fact – ’70s TV Drama – State Capital Rivers – Books & Authors – Does That Ring a “Bell”?
Daniel found the first Daily Double in “It’s a Fact” under the $2,000 clue on the 11th pick of the round. He was in the lead with $7,000, $1,800 more than Lucas in second place. Daniel bet $1,800 and thought it was the Urals. That was WRONG.
9 of the 10 highest mountains in the world are in the Himalayas, while the other is part of this nearby range show
Daniel found the last Daily Double in “The 6 Mothers-in-Law of Henry VIII” under the $1,200 clue on the 19th pick of the round. He was in the lead with $7,600, $400 more than Lucas in second place. Daniel bet $1,600 and he was RIGHT.
Not the Cromwells but this family lived in Wolf Hall; when Henry visited in 1535, Margery no doubt pointed out lovely daughter Jane show
Lucas finished in the lead with $7,600. Daniel was in second place with $7,200. Lee was last with $5,200. 4 clues worth $2,400 were not shown.
NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS “COCO”?
In the 2017 Disney•Pixar film “Coco”, Dante is a stray Xoloitzcuintle, Xolo for short. He is adopted by Miguel, a young Mexican boy who wants to become a musician. Dante acts as Miguel’s spirit guide on a trip to the Land of the Dead. (You can see why he’s named Dante, right?) From Growing Up Bilingual: “Although this goofy dog may seem to be in the movie just for the laughs with his hanging tongue and crazy antics he brings with him a lot of symbolism and meaning.” 10 things you probably didn’t know about Dante:
The Xoloitzcuintle is one of 3 recognized hairless dog breeds, although there are several other hairless breeds.
Lee came up with Chinese crested (one of the other hairless breeds). She lost $3,000 and finished with $2,200.
Daniel crossed off “Zootopia” and went with “Superpets”. He bet and lost his whole $7,200.
Lucas wrote down “Luca”. He bet and lost his whole $7,600. So, by hanging on to a little over $2 grand, Lee Wilkins became the new Jeopardy! champ in the first regular game of Season 40.
Reversal: ASK FORGIVENESS ($400) An older Elwin Wilson, once part of this notorious white-klad group, asked John Lewis to forgive him for a 1961 assault in S.C. – Ken didn’t catch the extra letter in Lucas’ “Klu Klux Klan” response but the judges did. It’s really Ku Klux Klan so he got dinged for $800.
A triple stumper from each round:
NOT PERSIMMON ($1000) Despite the similar name, this fruit is of a different family from the kumquat
THE 6 MOTHERS-IN-LAW OF HENRY VIII ($2000) Inspired by the ideas of this doomed Lord Chancellor, Katherine Parr’s mom Maud educated her daughter like her son

I got final. Not difficult, in the least. I saw the movie on an airplane (and I’m a Disneyphile). Just because they all missed it doesn’t make it “tough”.
Some people (referring to myself) are never happy. I had had enough of tournaments, but, regular contestants coming back seem to be a step below, which is a bit of a letdown.
I also got all 3 DD. The mountain range I learned from Jeopardy!
2 of the 3 DDs were pretty easy. I’d never heard of those mountains, and likely will forget their name by tomorrow.
Glad they caught the mispronunciation, because I heard it right away. “KKK” would have avoided that misstep.
Lucas pretty much had to wager most of his $7600 to cover Daniel and Lee in case both bet it all and answered correctly. Daniel had a choice. He could have wagered as little as $401, but that would not beat Lee if she answered correctly and bet it all. $3201 would have avoided that. As it played out, a smaller wager on his part, such as $3201, would have won the game.
The “Lou Grant” medium wasn’t tough, and those two missed state capitals were a bit tricky but not impossible.
Lee was the underdog throughout the game, but came from behind in FJ to win the game. Anyways, I never seen the 2017 animated film so I didn’t have a clue.
I don’t know the last time there were unplayed clues but I think that these contestants could have played them all if they (except Lucas) hadn’t started each sentence with “let’s go to” or “let’s try”. Such a lot of valuable time wasted.
Speaking of the Final Jeopardy! clue, just because Ernesto left Miguel’s family, doesn’t mean they can ban music and start a shoemaking business.
And we got a triple stumper as today’s final was a tough one.
The year 2017 and the word Dante reminds me of a Disney Pixar movie, and that final clue is somewhat easy.
Daniel’s $7,200 score before FJ! was the third time that happened this month. It was Amy’s final score before FJ! yesterday and it was Jennifer Quail’s final score before FJ! in the semifinal match Amy won.
Today was the first day of the long-awaited return of regular games and the return started off rough with low scores, killer FJ! and a small payday with only 2,200. Despite only giving 7 correct, Lee won the game. It’s also the fewest number of correct responses for a winning player since January 8, 2010 when Susan Poliniak won despite getting 5 correct and the only player correct in Final. It’s also the first time in a long time that we saw unplayed clues. When was the last time in regular play that we had unplayed clues.
