Other than a few gaffes by Amie, this was a strong group today. Ryan had chances near the end of DJ to tie or take the lead, but missed a couple. Really good player, though, especially after he began at minus $2K.

I thought the Final might be a stumper, so was impressed that two got it. This sports junkie knew it right away. He was famous for saying, “Don’t look back, someone may be gaining on you.”

I wonder if I would have been given it if they took my “birds words” instead of “hawk talk”. The clue did ask for a raptor, but, who knows?

Good game. When Ryan started 2 grand in the hole, I thought, “I hope this one doesn’t stink!” Happily, they picked it up. Jackie has a deliberate manner, but, not pushy. I missed the Mandalay DD, but, I had to run it back and turn on the subtitles to get her answer.

I know it’s stress inducing, but, I wish Ryan, on the last clue before the first break, would have said, “Who shot J.R?”, as, that is indeed a question!

Regarding FJ, Satchel Paige did retire from major league baseball at the age of 59 in 1966, but the devil is in the details here. Actually, Paige had only pitched 2/3 inning in the 1948 World Series, and some of those pitches may have been the so-called “hesitation pitches” where were later declared illegal. Afterwards, his pitching legacy could mostly be summed up as being a mixed bag of up and down years. From 1957 to 1966, Paige pitched sporadically as he had been in and out of baseball during that time. Well, there you have it.

I was happy to see Jackie win a lot today. I always hope champs who made less than $10K in their first game can win a second game.

People who can just reel off sports statistics amaze me. I know I won’t remember much of anything I read about Satchel Paige today. But there was one interesting statistic I saw on the Baseball Reference site — He is one of only four players who was older than the sitting President (Lyndon B. Johnson) during his career. Perhaps I will remember that.

The other three are: Jim O’Rourke and Dan Brouthers (Teddy Roosevelt) and Nic Altrock (Franklin D. Roosevelt). I probably won’t remember that.

I didnt get that 1200 dollar clue in way too tricky either because I also thought weasels were similar to ferrets in a way.

Anyway good game today. Ryan and Jackie were pretty quick on the buzzer today. She could be a possible streaker as well.
