TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS 1992?

In 1992, two expos were held to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ first voyage and discovery of the “New World.” The first expo to open was in Seville, Spain. It ran from 4/20 to 10/12/1992, with over 100 countries represented. The wikipedia article says Columbus began his voyage from “Seville’s port (on the Guadalquivir).” However, most sources name the port of Palos de la Frontera, some 50 miles from Seville as the departure point. I found a 2014 article reporting on how the mayor of Huelva took exception to the mayor of Seville’s claim that Columbus started out from Seville.

The second expo took place in Genoa, Italy, where Columbus was born. (No one knows his exact birthday although the year given is 1451.) The expo’s theme was “Christopher Columbus, The Ship and the Sea.”. It ran from 5/15 through 8/15/1992 with 54 countries participating.

Emmy got it right. She bet $6,200 and finished with $12,600.

Kris misunderstood the clue and wrote down 1492. He lost his $3,600 bet and finished with $6,000.

Andrea got it, too. She bet $6,601 and won the game with $19,201. Andrea Dragan is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Earlier this week, when I found that 1 contestant named Andrea Dragan, not Dragon, and 1 contestant named Emmy were competing on JEOPARDY! on the same day, that made me think of 1 thing, and 1 thing only. ”Emmy, voiced by Andrea Libman, on Dragon Tales.”

When I saw where Andrea was from on the contestant line-up, I thought “didn’t we just have a contestant from Silver Spring?” We did — it was Duncan on last Friday.

Well, despite two daily doubles missed, andrea came out strong today. But still hawking wasn’t a bad guess since he also had done general theory of relativity and won the Albert Einstein award. I was hoping for a tiebreaker question today. Sure Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492, and his legacy has been honored. But honestly how did Kris misunderstood the clue?
