TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS “ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT”?

Matthew McConaughey played Wooderson in “Dazed and Confused” (1993), his first film role. He has told the story of how he came to say “Alright, alright, alright” to many people many times and, as a result, there are many variations of the quote in today’s clue. However, I found what appears to be the exact quote in the first scene of the above video compilation. Right after McConaughey says 1992 at about the 5 second mark, he says: “‘Dazed & Confused’, the first words I ever said on film were ‘Alright, alright, alright’….”

The first time I can recall hearing a character say “alright, alright, alright” was in “Yankton”, a 1972 Gunsmoke episode. Emma Donovan (Pamela Payton-Wright) tells Yankton (James Stacy) to admit he loves her. Feeling pressured, Yankton says “Alright, alright, alright”, then admits it. Matthew McConaughey says he got it from a Jim Morrison recording (also on YouTube). That recording is from 1970 so maybe Jim inspired the line in the Gunsmoke episode, too. Regardless of who said it first or where you first heard it, “Alright, alright, alright” has become so closely associated with Matthew McConaughey that Ken encouraged the contestants to do their best “Wooderson” impersonation.

Evan got it right. He bet $3,801 and that brought him up to $8,601.

Amy wrote down “unintelligible” which got a laugh from Ken, but cost Amy $6,001. She finished with $2,599.

Katie also got it right. She bet $2,601 and won the game with $17,201. Katie Hargrove is the new Jeopardy! champion.

I got the Grenada flag clue because I did my first half of med school there. I also got the last clue in the DJ round, about Will Rogers. Between that one, and the HHH successor, it’s becoming slightly apparent that there is a “history deficit”. The Meryl Streep one, though? Ne’er even heard of it!

The Double Jeopardy round was all right. I thought the first round was much better. Much.

And, if you have a moment, do a little research on the Grenada spice. The story is rather interesting. Another major crop grown on the island (not marijuana)? Indigo, such as is used as denim dye!

That science daily double should not have been that hard as it definitely is physics related. Drag was something I learned back in college but I have heard that term countless times playing Gizmos and Gadgets, Not surprised that Evan missed it But still happy that he and Kate got this final right. Still I found Amy’s final response very funny. I always loved hearing this said in movies starring Matthew McConaughey. Pure comedy I tell you VJ!

I wouldn’t have even had a guess on that Science DD. I thought that category wasn’t named right. They had an anatomy clue in there plus clues about planets are usually found in Astronomy, but whatever… that Neptune clue had more to do with mythology than science or medicine.
