WHO IS ARGUS? (alt. sp. ARGOS)

The Theoi Project’s page on Argus has a comprehensive collection of classical literature quotes on Argus. The transliteration of the Greek name Αργος Πανοπτης, it explains, is Argos Panoptês. The Latin spelling is Argus Panoptes and the translation is Argive All-Eyes.

The basic story about the all-seeing giant with 100 eyes involves Zeus and his love affair with the Argive nymph Io. To save her from Hera’s jealousy, Zeus turned Io into a white heifer. Hera made Zeus give her the cow and gave Argus Panoptes the job of guarding it. Zeus recruited Hermes to free his lover. Hermes either lulled Argus to sleep and cut off his head or stoned him to death. As a reward for his role in this sordid drama, Hera put Argus’ 100 eyes on the tail of the peacock, her favorite bird.

Isaac bet $7,700 and finished with $15,500.

Adriana bet $6,000 and finished with $16,400.
