WHO IS WALT DISNEY?

At the 1954 Academy Awards, Walt Disney won the Oscar for:
(1) Best Short Subject, Cartoons for “Toot Whistle Plunk and Boom” (1953);
(2) Best Short Subject, Two-reel for “Bear Country” (1953);
(3) Best Documentary, Short Subjects for “The Alaskan Eskimo” (1953); and
(4) Best Documentary, Features for “The Living Desert” (1953).
That year, Disney also had nominations in Best Short Subject, Cartoons for “Rugged Bear” (1953) and Best Short Subject, Two-reel for “Ben and Me” (1953). According to Insider, South Korean director and producer, Bong Joon-Ho tied Walt Disney for the 4 wins in one night at the 2020 Academy Awards, although they are attributing the win for Best International Film to him, when it actually is awarded to the country.

During his lifetime (12/5/1901 – 12/15/1966), Walt Disney won 22 Oscars out of a total of 59 nominations. He holds the records for most wins and most nominations for one person in Oscar history. Disney either won or was nominated for an Oscar at almost every Academy Award ceremony from the 5th in 1932 to the 37th in 1965. He won his first Oscar at age 30 for Best Short Subject, Cartoon for “Flowers and Trees” (1932). His last Oscar, for “Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day” was awarded posthumously at the 41st Academy Awards in 1969.

Kate wrote down Herzog. She lost her $9,500 bet and finished with $100.

John got it right. His $6,400 bet brought him up to an even $20,000.

Stan came up with Orson Welles. That cost him $10,801. He finished with $5,599 and that meant that John Focht is now a 4-day champion with total winnings of $103,800.

    Please someone had to see the S.T.E.M. female question deliverer on 2/11/21?
    She had vampire fangs! Did anyone get her name?

  3. Lou says:

    By the way I breezed through the maritime disasters category but I am surprised no one knew the Costa Concordia or the Andrea doria disaster. Though both had the least amount of deaths, the captain should have stayed to help evacuate passengers.

    Wow. Lots of Triple Stumpers.

    • VJ says:

      There were a couple in that STEM category too, DC, but I couldn’t understand what she was saying! I’ll have to try to figure it out later

      • VJ says:

        Problem solved. The video is on page 2 now. (The only clue I got in that whole category was the $2000 clue)

  5. JP says:

    There’s an interesting bit of trivia – I did not know that the Academy Award for Best International Feature film is technically awarded to the country.

  6. Lou says:

    Did Kate meant Werner Herzog, VJ? You know the german film director? He has no affiliation with Disney movies. But I heard he made Aguirre the wrath of God. I thought the opponents should know Disney himself since Mickey mouse is very popular for kids of all ages. Congrats to John on his fourth win. He might actually win game 5 tomorrow if this keeps up.
