WHAT IS IRAN?
The 2018 Arab League was hosted by Saudi King Salman in April 2018 and held in the Saudi city of Dhahran. King Salman blamed Iran for instability and meddling in Arab affairs. Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit added that “Regional interference in Arab affairs has reached an unprecedented degree. And first of these is the Iranian interference, the aim of which is not for the well-being of the Arabs or their interests.” Read more on Haaretz.
Here’s a link to wikipedia’s Ethnicities in Iran article, for anyone curious about the percentage of the Arab population in that country.
Samir got it right. He bet $2,201. He finished with $7,401.
Pat wrote down Russia, crossed it out because she didn’t think it was legible and wrote down Russia again. She lost her $301 bet, finishing with $7,099.
Dave wrote down Iran, crossed it out and wrote down Iran again. (LOL!) He bet $900 and won the game with $18,900. His 4-day total is $100,102.
A triple stumper from each round:
HOOP & HALLER ($1000) It’s the nickname of Nate Archibald, who had a Hall of Fame career despite standing a relatively diminutive 6’1″

Can 4 time champions participate in the tournament of champions
@VJ
Well, poetry is kind of literature too in a way, isn’t it? there are novelists who write/wrote poems too. Or very short essays or stories that are poetic. Sagas, legends can be poetic or have poems in them. For me anything printed that is fictional is literature, prose or poem. Maybe that’s why I don’t like it that much because I don’t make those “differences” which would a real literature aficionado – when s/he knew how I look at it – give a heart attack.
Has anybody else noticed that the ART category is usually the last category chosen in Double Jeopardy? I don’t know why that is because the same answers keep coming up such as Van Gogh, Warhol, Monet, Manet, Degas, Da Vinci, Pollock, Kahlo, etc…
Funny, I always thought it was the Poetry category that is chosen last the most. And they have the same stuff in that whenever, too – Poe, Whitman, Tennyson, Longfellow, etc. I guess I just notice that one more than any other.
@VJ
Maybe you just notice it more, because you are sort of a literary fan/buff?
It’s such a wide area it can go from Plato ver Ovid to the middle ages, Jane Austen, all kind of British,French,American writers in the late 19th/early 20th century to more “modern authors like Hemingway to the end of the 20th/beginning 21st century, like Clancy,Patterson etc etc, all the “thriller” writers. So it’s possibly as much a “dreaded” category like geography or history, categories that have a huge range as well.
I know I would avoid it (unless specified to a certain era), you would likely pick it first, being aware that you know more about literature than any “average” player. I would go for geography and history first, even w/o being specific.
I said Poetry not Literature
It was cute how Dave and Pat both wrote the same answer twice.
I thought they would have Heathcliff in the Literary Cads but nah.
There were a bunch of clues left untouched today, I guess because of the triple stumpers.

Yeah, I was wondering about all the leftovers!
With his 4-day winnings of $100,102, he overtook Alex Schmidt and become the highest 4-game winner. However, Alan Dunn is the highest 5-game winner with over $120,000 and Dave MUST win at least $20,000 in order to become the highest 5-game winner.
Bravo for Dave getting his fourth game won. Congrats to him. I can tell he is very impressive So far and I can see he might reach Rob Worman’s six game total as long as he can expand his knowledge a bit more. By the way VJ and John, where were.you guys when the Iran hostage crisis event occurred? Although pat and Dave had made small bets they played well today. I would bet on Dave to win more and surpass Alan Dunn.
@Lou
I was living on Barbados then (1978 to 1981), then back to Vienna,Miami, SanFran and came to HI 1/24/84.Gonna be in HI for 35 years next January.
After the Ayatollah took over the name IRAN became much more used than before. It was always “Persia” or “Persien”, depending on the language. If somebody said “Iran” it was thought of kind of fancy and that somebody wanted to be extra smart. A REAL irony: my mother, who was born in Prussia, was married in Tehran to the brother of the minister of the interior of Reza Shah Pahlavi, father of Mohammad Reza Shah who was married to Soraya and Farah Diba and had to leave the country in 1979……. Looooooong story. All in all my mother was married 5 times,my father being the 5th one. She was 37 then and I was born when she was 38, which was very late for a woman to have a child in 1947. Today it’s normal.My father was 47 when I was born.
Also very late for those times to become a father.
Well, I have to say I am really pleasantly surprised by the 2 correct answers. Pat’s bet was again one of those wagers where I just don’t get it.
But CONGRATULATIONS to Dave!! He is now leading the 4 game winners by $7,222 and in $ winnings after 4 wins he is just trailing Josh, 7 games won, by $2.428. And I have a feeling he is not done yet. Overall he is #10 on the ToC list since he “only” won 4 games so far. VERY impressive!
The TS about Nate Archibald (“ONLY” 6’1” ) was kind of surprising, a simple deduction clue. Well, did not matter really. Again, WAY TO GO,DAVE! Nice average paydays. Getting the FJs right all the time does not hurt…..He could have even more had he maximized his bets in the 2 runaway games. It will take a lot to beat him. Brian had the chance yesterday but blew it missing Jack London. Finally we have a player who is really top material in wide knowledge and being smart when it comes to logical/deduction answers. Bravo!
