WHAT IS “WAITING FOR GODOT”?

Sir Peter Hall CBE (1930-2017) was an English theatre, opera and film director, considered by many to be one of the most important 20th century influences on the arts in Great Britain. Among his many accomplishments, Hall introduced the work of Irish playwright Samuel Beckett to London when he brought “Waiting for Godot” to the Arts Theatre stage in 1955.

Beckett wrote “Godot” in French. After the absurdist play debuted at the Théâtre de Babylone in Paris in 1953, its merits were much debated in Europe. After Beckett translated it into English and it opened at London’s Arts Theatre, Peter Hall got the attention of notable American playwrights such as Tennessee Williams and Harold Pinter. They collaborated with Hall on their own plays.

Ashley got it right. She bet $7,500 and that brought her up to $15,100.

Donna didn’t have a response. She lost her $12,300 bet and finished with $300.

Amy got it, too. She bet $6,000 and won the game with $38,400. Amy’s 19-day total is $745,200.

At least now this has been a clue used in a previous jeopardy game from a former jeopardy contest. So happy to see Amy tied with David Madden and Jason Zuffranieri. It’s the first time seeing Amy betting 6000 on a daily double after doing 4K for a while. Congrats to Ashley also getting this right as well so I think we can end 2021 with Amy getting the longest streak so far for jeopardy. This play will be dedicated to Peter Hall.
