TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS WINSTON CHURCHILL?

On July 19, 1940, in a speech before the German Reichstag, Adolf Hitler made what he claimed was a “last appeal to reason”, offering Great Britain peace or destruction. Hitler painted himself as having sought peace all along. Churchill and just about everyone else, except Mussolini, were warmongers and profiteers, and he even claimed to have written proof that British leaders didn’t care what happened to the people of mainland Europe. Hitler also said that when he unleashed his forces on the people of Great Britain, Churchill and their other leaders would probably be safe in Canada.

After the May 1940 German Blitzkreig through Belgium and France, there were those in Churchill’s War Cabinet who wanted to make peace with Hitler but Churchill was having none of it and Hitler’s speech did nothing to change his mind, nor did Churchill leave his country. Less than 5 years later, a defeated Hitler committed suicide.

Iris thought it was Stalin. She lost $4,000 and finished with $2,400.

Jason got it right. He bet $5,600 and finished with $16,200.

Juveria got it right too. She bet $5,600 and won this match with an astounding $51,200. This 2-day affair will continue on Christmas Day and the final scores of both matches will be added together to determine the winner.

  1. Jason says:

I think Iris is outclassed in this one. Jason has a very small chance to win. However, Juveria looks like the real thing. In any case, it’s definitely a nice cushion to have for Monday.

  2. William Weyser says:

51,200 is the exact same score that Ken Jennings finished Game 1 in Night 3 of the Greatest of All Time with.

  3. Elan S Xu says:

Jeopardy! has now reached the 9000th episode.

  4. Howard says:

Wow, Juveria took no prisoners, and is fast on the buzzer too. I was impressed she knew “Henderson the Rain King.” I was sure that’d be a stumper.

I considered Churchill but went with Stalin, who I thought fit the warmonger label. But Churchill was more in line with the Canada reference. I should have known the term for water-soaked air because we just got over one.

  5. Rick says:

My first thought for FJ was FDR, then Churchill, and lastly De Gaulle. Why I settled for De Gaulle I’ll never know, but the French president did flee to England. IMHO, I wouldn’t know why Hitler would fear any of those two leaders as the British and French were hardly good fighters. Actually, neither were the Italians for that matter.

  6. Kevin Cheng says:

45,600 was the highest score this season going into FJ! Right now Juveria’s score is very hard to catch but it’s not over yet.
