The 1st segment of this was dedicated on July 4, 1930; the next, Aug. 30, 1936; Section 3, on Sept. 17, 1937 & the last, on July 2, 1939

Round 1 Categories: Who Done It? – Hooray for Bollywood! – Clothes Make the Idiom – Roald Dahl – Bodies of Water – Likes & Ravers
Anne found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Bodies of Water” under the $600 clue on the 2nd pick of the round. She was the only one with money, $400 from the first clue. She bet the $1,000 allowance and thought it was the Aral Sea. That was WRONG.
This misleadingly named body of water is landlocked by Russia, Kazakhstan & 3 other nations. show
Jackie finished in the lead with $6,400. Anne was second with $4,800 and Conor was last with $4,000.
Round 2 Categories: American Helicopter Museum – Trees – No. 1 Songs – Do You Compute? – 4th Century Bookstore – Impossible Words
Conor found the first Daily Double in “Trees” under the $1,600 clue on the 17th pick. He was in third place with $8,400 now, $2,400 behind Jackie’s lead. He bet $3,000 and thought it was ginseng. That was WRONG.
This is the better-known species of the maidenhair tree, used in Chinese medicine to boost memory. show
Conor found the last Daily Double in “Do You Compute?” under the $1,200 clue, with 5 clues worth $4,400 left after it. In third place with $7,000, he had $5,400 less than Jackie’s lead. He bet $5,000 and he was RIGHT.
A computer acting under a hacker’s control is called a zombie this, & a group of them is a zombie army or this “net” show
Jackie finished in the lead with $12,400. Conor was next with $12,000 and Anne was in third place with $9,600.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
A dedication ceremony was held as each President’s face was completed on Mount Rushmore, in this order; George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt. See Black Hills & Badlands’ blog for more details on that and two other Mount Rushmore dedication ceremonies.
A Daily Double from 6/25/13: Obama’s number as president divided by the number of heads carved on Mount Rushmore
Anne wrote down Route 66. She lost her $9,599 and finished with $1.00.
Conor got it right. He bet it all, bringing him up to $24,000.
Jackie got it, too. She bet $12,200 and won the game with $24,600. Her 3-day total is $58,689.
Say what? Alex Trebek gave “Temptations” as the correct response to this clue: 4TH CENTURY BOOKSTORE ($2000) A biography by Athanasius tells of the lures set by the devil, known ever since as this “of St. Anthony” – as far as I can determine, the biography by Athanasius is known as “Life of St. Anthony,” (sometimes it’s Antony or St. Anthony of Egypt, etc). The title of an 1874 book by Gustave Flaubert is “The Temptation of St. Anthony.” (not plural). It’s very rarely TemptationS.
A triple stumper from each round:
ROALD DAHL ($600) Wes Anderson made a stop-motion film based on this tale of a cunning animal who steals poultry from 3 mean farmers
DO YOU COMPUTE? ($1600) The parents of the world wide web inventor aka “TimBL” both worked on the first commercial computer

Sorry, Conor Gensing is not a tree.
I would imagine that not betting for the lead in the last DD will haunt him more than that one. “In for a penny, in for a pound”

OMG. I could not believe the DD bet. Conor bet not enough to take the lead, but enough to take him out of contention if he missed.
I wonder if Conor was simply nervous and just did not think things through. It’s a shame to blow the game because of bad strategy.
Well, since only one can win, there are always reasons for the other 2 to lose. And they come in all forms: nerves, strategy, mental block, bad math etc etc. You could transfer the old saying”Death is looking for a cause” to “Defeat is looking for a cause”. When you lose then there is always a reason why. Same with winning. Conor’s misfortune – if you will — was Jackie’s reason -or one of them – for winning the game. One’s fortune is usually another one’s misfortune and vice versa. Such is life. Not always fair, but….that’s the way it is.
The movie “Matilda” was the worst thanks to her family not being nice.
Route 66 isn’t a natural wonder but still was Anne thinking of the sunset strip or the route that goes from Chicago to Los Angeles, VJ and John? But a win is a win for Jackie since she has the potential to get into the toc if she can string up a few more wins. Conor thought he had this game won but Jackie struck out
Anne saw “segment” and that was it. This word is ubiquitous in the airline industry, whether online or when you talk to an agent. You dont fly from Denver to Frankfurt, it’s the Denver-Frankfurt “segment”. That led her astray, literally. But since she was last anyway and the other 2 players got it, it didn’t matter in the end. Missing the Caspian Sea at the first DD was equally if not more “WHAAAT”? imo. Pretty easy FJs the last 5 days, but yet…not all ended up in a sweep.
Jackie essentially loses this game if Conor wagers $201 more on the DD he got on the last clue of the game.
The only explanation I have for the response from Anne is her job. Pilots, flight attendants, reservation agents all refer to a flight as a “segment”. This probably led Anne to a “stretch” of something instead of a fixed monument since “segment” appeared right at the beginning of the clue.
Congratulations to Jackie, though with her average winnings even a 4th win might not be enough, placing her behind Mary Ann at #13 overall on the ToC list.
The fun with J is : you can always expect the unexpected.
@John B./I. You’re maybe right, I hope she wins 2 more and prevent more Triple Stumpers, otherwise, she’s out of contention for the ToC.
Yup, with her average winnings she needs to win at least 2 more, with 4 wins she would most likely trail even Mary Ann. About time we would get a 5 or more game winner. Has been a while…. If she wins the rest of the week she would be pretty safe with 6 wins, I would say even 100%. We’ll see. The FJ results we re a little unexpected lately, easy as they were in the last 5 games.
