WHAT IS LIBYA?
In 2011, a civil war in Libya resulted in the ousting of dictator Muammar Gadaffi, who had ruled the country for 40-plus years. Gaddafi was later captured and killed in October 2011. The Christian Monitor reported on Libya’s flag change in August of 2011: “Until recently, the flag of Libya held a special place in the hearts of vexillophiles as The World’s Most Boring Flag. That’s because it was nothing but a green rectangle, with no markings of any kind. But starting in February, a new flag – red, black, and green with a white star and crescent in the center – has been hoisted at Libyan embassies around the world, from Switzerland to Bangladesh.”
The article further explains that the color green is “the traditional color of Islam, traditionally the favorite color of the Prophet Mohammed, and a powerful symbol of life for people living in the desert” and that the new flag is a retro flag that was the flag of the Kingdom of Libya from 1951 to 1969.
Fernanda thought it was Zimbabwe. She lost her $399 bet and finished with a buck.
Carmela got it right. She bet $11,899, bringing her up to $24,599.
Devin got it, too. He bet $7,505 and won the game with $25,405. Devin Rossiter is the new Jeopardy! champ.

This episode in my area aired yesterday.
It’s difficult for me to interpret today’s FJ clue as anything other than a slap at the president. The opening phrase “After the removal of the dictator” is very odd- “its dictator” would be far more natural.
Which makes me think that yesterday’s clue (red states and blue states) was deliberately chosen for the election eve (that one’s a lot more obvious). Even Friday’s (Red Scare) seems to have political undertones – I’m sure a lot of the Jeopardy writers are a bit scared as they see more and more states fill in red on the electoral map tonight.
I wouldn’t be surprised at another clue tomorrow with subtle, or not so subtle, political undertones.
lol, JP, we were just sitting here talking about how the comma was deliberately placed after the word dictator in order to put “2011 3” next. (20-11-3)
Funny! I didn’t notice that. Unlikely to be a coincidence. I don’t think my reading is too conspiratorial, but I’d be pretty disappointed if they (the writers and producers) were letting their political leanings enter the show in such a childish way.
yeah, as you pointed out, it should have read “its dictator”, with the comma placement separating the numerals — “its dictator in 2011, 3 broad colored stripes etc.”.
My 10th grade English teacher, Sister Pierre, would have had a stroke over the construction of that sentence. lol. (Whenever I add a P.S. to something, I can still hear that woman say “P.S. stands for pinhead”)
Happy Election Day, the curse of Tuesday’s FJ triple stumper is finally over. Today we got 2 players got FJ! right just like on the Tuesday 10/6/20 match with a double solve.
Well carmela played a great game, too bad she didn’t win her fourth game as I thought she had a 60 percent chance of that. Congrats to her and Devin on getting final right.
