Here we are at the last semi-finalist match of the 2013 Teachers Tournament. The last three competitors are: Eli BarrieauMaryanne Lewell; and Mary Beth Hamemrstrom. One of them will move on to compete in the 2-day final.

Mary Beth found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Don’t Say Um.” She was in a tie for the lead with Maryanne at $2,400, $1,600 more than Eli in second place. She bet $1,000 and she was RIGHT.

Maryanne finished in the lead with $6,200. Mary Beth was second with $3,800 and Eli was last with $1,800.

Eli found the first Daily Double in “World History.” It was the third pick and he had gotten the previous two right, so he now had $3,000, $3,200 less than Maryanne’s lead. He made it a true Daily Double and he was RIGHT.

Mary Beth found the last Daily Double in “Inspiration.” She was now in third place with $6,200, $2,000 less than Maryanne’s lead. She bet $2,000, and she was RIGHT.

Mary Beth finished in the lead with $21,000. Eli was next with $14,800 and Maryanne was in third place with $7,800.

Maryanne bet it all and finished with $15,600.

Eli also bet it all. He finishing with $29,600.

Mary Beth bet $8,601, protecting herself against Eli, and winning the match with $29,601.

The three finalists, Mary Beth Hammerstrom, John Pearson and Becky Giardina, will battle it out over the next 2 days for the $100,000 top prize as well as a spot in the Tournament of Champions. In fact, the 2012 Teacher’s Tournament winner, Colby Burnett, also won the 2013 Tournament of Champions back in February.

    The kid knew the rules going in. Yes it was a shame that he made a mistake but it was ruled correctly. In my day that was character building. These days it is used as a weapon to give the kid something that he did not earn. That is why we have the Linsey Lohan’s and Miley Cyrus’ because they expect everyone to cater to their every whim. Maybe the kid can take his lemon and make a valid and useful lemonade.
