Adam finished in the lead with $20,000. Alex was next with $18,600 and Lee was in third place with $8,200.

WHO IS MOSES?

On the Architect of the U.S Capitol website, there is a diagram showing the position of the 23 marble relief portraits over the gallery doors of the House Chamber. Moses is the only one facing front and the others are positioned so that they are looking at him. Seven different artists created the portraits. There is also a list of the names you can click to see a larger image, description and the artist’s name.

An old clue with the same answer: DUDE-ERONOMY ($200) Totally cool! This dude wrote Deuteronomy as a way of reinforcing what he first learned on Mount Sinai

Lee bet $8,199, finishing with $16,399.

Alex bet $2,198, bringing him up to $20,798.

Adam had Solomon and crossed it off for Justinian. He lost $17,201, leaving him with $2,799. What a shocker! But a great turn of events for Alex Schmidt. He is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Final Jeopardy (10/8/2018) Adam Francois Watkins, Alex Schmidt, Lee Glazer

Huh? The number of the king was in this clue and that’s why Alex didn’t have to say it: BRITISH PLAYS & PLAYWRIGHTS ($2000) You can see the second king of this name as a prince in “Braveheart” or see his downfall in a Christopher Marlowe play

I only counted 2 triple stumpers in the whole game!

MOVIE MUSIC ($2000) The director of “The Third Man’ was entranced by a local playing this instrument & hired him to compose the score

    @JJ
Yeah, Dead Sea and Bosporus are kind of close……had Bosporus come up you would be “dead”, pun intended….but look at it this way: you might get an extra grape…..:):):):)

  2. Fable Foreacre says:

He got that easy Final Jeopardy wrong that everyone should know. Everyone should know who MOSES are. He lost $17,201.

I think the champ may have outsmarted himself. Maybe the champ picked Moses, but thought Moses was way too obvious and then chose a more obscure answer.

One time for a Final I picked Paderewski over Chopin because I thought Chopin was too easy and obvious for a Final. I outsmarted myself and the answer was Chopin.

Augustus Caesar was born Gaius Octavias Thurinus . Gaius is one of the sculptures.

First Roman emperor after the second triumvirate fell apart (Mark Antony and Marcus Lepidus the other two. Mark Antony was defeated at the battle of Actium and later stabbed himself (suicide), Lepidus was banished (exile) ). That left Augustus to become eventually the first Roman emperor after he ruled de facto as military dictator by the powers granted to him by the Senate but pretending the Senate had all the power. 27 AD (or BCE) he became emperor, followed 40 years later by Tiberius. Then came Caligula and we all know how that ended…

VJ, JJ popped up in Here’s to the Hard Stuff, I’m sure he enjoyed the entire category, too!
But JJ, were you drinking the grappa too early, there was no Bodies of Water category?

    • VJ says:

LOL, Rhonda!! I thought the same thing about the Bodies of Water… maybe he thought the Float By category had to do with that?

      • rhonda says:

Yes I was thinking the same thing, that the Float By category got him all worried. And he calls me a silly lapin lol!

        • JJ says:

It WAS that category that had me worried because the J!6 question had an answer of “The Dead Sea”. That was way too close to Bosporus for my comfort zone… 😎

        • rhonda says:

Poor JJ, I wonder if one of my relatives threw that in there just to cause you some concern lol??

        • JJ says:

It’s all good! I dodged the proverbial bullet which SHOULD earn me an extra ray of sunshine come this weekend… correct VJ?! 😁

        • VJ says:

ha ha ha, JJ, you wish!! I don’t recall every clue in that category but one had to do with butterflies, another a floating bottle and another a dessert. Even if the other two had something to do with bodies of water, you’re outnumbered already. (The J!6 clue does not count)

        • rhonda says:

You are shameless, JJ! Tricking us by calling the category Bodies of Water and then asking VJ for an extra ray of sunshine to boot! Some noiv!!

        • JJ says:

Oh Ye Recriminating Rabbit, I wasn’t try to trick you… I just remembered that the clue was about a “body of water”: Here it is:
“The high salt levels of this sea, the site of the Earth’s lowest point on land, make it easy to float while swimming in it”
          What is “The Black Sea”
@VJ – Ah come on VJ! Read that clue! That almost scared all of the wine-juice right out me. I deserve at least one ray of sunshine… don’t cha think?! 😔

        • rhonda says:

Please VJ, make him stop, he has outdone himself with his “pit”y party.

  5. John Christian Ambion says:

Another fluke resulted in capping the beginning of the week with a new Jeopardy! champion. The correct response is still there, but does anyone know the other 22 who are in the US Capitol art?

    • John B./I. says:

Yes, just follow the link in VJ’s first line under” MOSES” Not only gives you the people but also the artists.

    • VJ says:

@John Christian, in the recap next to the image of Moses, there is a link to the page that gives the other 22 names and more. It would be too much to list all 22 names in the recap and besides, the Architect of the U.S Capitol site has all the images of the portraits.

  6. Lou says:

Justinian is in Roman times and not in the bible so I think Adam might have misread the clue. VJ, if you remember Julius Caesar and the Roman forum from where in time is carmen sandiego, Adam should have gone for the most obvious answer with a hint of noahs ark and how the great flood occurred. Don’t you agree? Plus the gentlemen were too fast for Lee to catch up but I hope he can get a streak up and running

    • John B./I. says:

Possibly just overlooked the Bible part? Pressure and the stress of 30 seconds can really do a number on you.

  7. John B./I. says:

Congratulations to Alex and the ToC clock is reset again. Had Alex not struck out at the second DD he would have ended up with 22,600 before FJ (everything else being the same) and bet maybe 17,401 , giving him a payday of 40.001. Then again, he may have been still cautious and only bet 1,599, winning 24,199.

Adam was not that far off, except Justinian is not in the Bible. Solomon was a reasonable guess and is in the Bible
