NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS AFGHANISTAN?
According to CountriesoftheWorld.com, there are 50 independent Asian countries but the landlocked part of the clue narrows that down considerably. According to WorldAtlas.com, there are 12 landlocked Asian countries, to wit: Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Nepal, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. 30 seconds hardly seems like enough time to go through those 12, assuming you even know them! Afghanistan is the first country on the list of landlocked countries and the list of all Asian countries, so perhaps the one thing that might have helped the contestants on this clue would be to start at A. Even then, they’d have to know Afghanistan is landlocked.
For more info on landlocked countries, including the definitions of landlocked and double landlocked, see Wikipedia.
Jacqueline thought it was Mongolia. She bet and lost her whole $800.
Sean was going for Kyrgyzstan. At $7,400, he had what we might call a second place runaway so he didn’t bet anything.
Cris went with a very scribbly Tajikistan. His prior FJ! bets have been modest but this time he went big and lost $15,221. He still emerged victorious with $20,079. Cris Pannullo’s 3-day total is $83,458.

Every kid who’s ever watched a western knows about fool’s gold. As for the final? I got it by just going down the alphabet. Fortunately, F-G-H comes up almost immediately.

It was a $2K clue and Cris got it right.
A tough finale to be sure. I mean, there were no less than 48 countries to choose from, and time certainly wasn’t on anybody’s side.

Sorry – to forestall any corrective comments – the list is not alphabetical – but still really helpful.
Yeah, that’s true — I thought about putting Turkmenistan in the right place but that’s how they had it on Countries of the World.
Once again, thanks to VJ for the splendid, concise alphabetical list of landlocked countries. You rock!
Thanks, Sam! I didn’t get FJ! but I did get that “all that glitters” triple stumper because of a Gunsmoke episode I saw not too long ago.
It was about this guy named Cleavus who thought he struck gold and was rich so he decided that entitled him to marry Miss Kitty. He was a fool. lol
Well, Cris might not have known this final jeopardy answer but this is his third runaway game so he will be hard to defeat. Congrats, Cris on your well played game today.
And that is our first triple stumper of the week.
